The DNA "unzips"
Nucleotides of mRNA use the single, "unzipped" strand of DNA as a blueprint to form a long chain (uracil is used in the place of thymine)
Once the nucleotides are fused, the mRNA molecule moves away from the parent DNA strand and into the cytoplasm
The two strands of DNA rejoin
