U.S. History Youth and Law

1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th period

The goal of U.S. History 1AB is to give each student a deeper understanding of United States History by studying the events, people, and cultures that helped shaped it. Class time will be spent engaging in various activities, such as simulations, in addition to lectures, video clips and presentations to help us better comprehend the material being presented...expect variety!

 

2nd Period

Our goal in Youth and Law is to give students of the Magellan Academy a broader understanding of leadership, the Law, and how it relates to each individual. By gaining deeper understandings of these topics we will not only become more knowledgeable, but also we will be enhancing ourselves as citizens of this school, this community, this nation, and this world. Time is class each week will be spent on various activities ranging from in-class speeches, to mock trials, to lectures. Be prepared for variety and be prepared to learn by doing.

 Materials are the same for both classes, however if you have U.S. History AND Youth and Law you must have a separate notebook for each class.

A three-ring binder

2 or more pens or pencils (All class work is to be done in blue or black ink and all corrections should be in a differnt colored ink. Typing is recommended if your handwriting is illegible.

Binder paper for in-class assignments (this should not be paper torn from a spiral notebook).

A spiral notebook for this class only.

Computer disk(s).

For Law, colored pencils and highlighters are also required.

Rules and Expectations

The NHHS cheating policy will be strictly enforced. If you are caught cheating the first offense results in a "F" on the assignment and a phone call home, the second offense will result in an "F" in the class and a "U" on your citizenship for the semester as per NHHS policy.
Homework is due at the beginning of class, no exceptions. Late work will NOT be accepted.
Students must be in their seats when the bell rings and remain seated.
No talking when the teacher or a classmate is talking.
Stay on task!
Be prepared for class each day by having your  homework completed and all of your supplies with you.
There will be no bathroom privileges during the first 20 minutes or last 20 minutes of class (only in cases of extreme emergencies).
No one is to leave his or her seat when a lecture is being presented.
Respect the teacher and other classmates; disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
The bell does not dismiss the class, I will dismiss the class.
No food, drinks or hats are allowed in class. Bottle water is allowed however.
If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what you missed in class and to get your assignments from the teacher or a fellow classmate.
Missed quizzes cannot be made up and tests must be made up in a timely manner.
In-class assignments are due at the end of class on the day they are assigned.
Being disruptive or disrespectful for a substitute, or any other guest in class will result in severe consequences.
All electronic devices must be turned off in class including cell phones, palm pilots, etc.
