An Aardvarx versus Aardvarx game is always going to be an evenly matched affair, and this was no exception. Both teams played with their hearts on their sleeves and gave it everything, despite both teams being severely short benched - the A Squad icing with ten outskaters, the B Squad with just nine.
A scoreless first period was keenly contested, with both teams playing end to end hockey and getting a fairly even spread of shots on goal (10 versus 9). It took until after the halfway point of the game for the deadlock to be broken, Dave Chambers putting away a solo effort to give the A Squad the lead, and with just over a minute remaining in the second period the lead was extended through another solo effort, this time Mark Doyle taking the credit.
In the third period the B Squad piled on the pressure, forcing the A Squad onto the back foot. A shot from the point from Ian Lowman found its way onto the stick of netminder Adam McArdle before bouncing into the net to make it 2-1. Six minutes later the A Squad restored the two goal lead through Paul Edwards, capitalising on a Dave Chambers pass, and four minutes later Chambers netted his second of the night, Edwards and Doyle credited with the assists.
