Tahoga Restaurant

On a stretch of M Street, at Georgetown’s eastern edge, lies a dashing little establishment nestled in an historic 3-story town home. This is the unlikely home of Washington D.C.s’ most celebrated newly re-opened restaurant.

At first glance, you may not notice the unassuming building in a spray of green, where M Street meets Pennsylvania Avenue. But once inside the door you will realize that this could only be the critically acclaimed Tahoga Restaurant of Georgetown.

The stark minimalist dining rooms, adorned with little more than a splash of light, are described by critics as” the neatest, brightest, most civilized face to appear on the Georgetown scene in far too long a time.”

Steps away, an enchanting brick-walled garden of cascading ivy beckons through French doors.

From the two-level dining garden, you notice the calligraphic railing of a second story verandah where guests over look the magic below.

Understandably, Tahogas’ cooking is New American with a Mediterranean influence. The contemporary sort, and Christophe Poteaux, formerly of The Jonathan Club, Los Angeles, is the master behind the straightforward, savory cuisine. The menu is not lengthy, just representative. And nothing is routine.

Tahoga recently underwent major renovations from details as small as the seat cushions, to a more serious bar design. Tahogas’ staff was also ‘renovated’ and thus bringing forth new General Manager Anna Francis.

It is the personal quest of Chef Poteaux and Miss Francis to return Tahoga to its original culinary high spot to WOW and delight Georgetown diners. In their attempt to utilize the freshest in-season ingredients and please Washington’s’ diverse population, our menu and wine list will change on the first day of each month.

Tahoga is open for lunch and dinner 6 days and nights a week, closing on Sunday. Private parties, banquets, receptions or just about any other function are made possible at Tahoga. Check with Anna Francis for all of your party needs.

“Tahoga’s entrees’ show how much New American cooking has matured.” - Phyllis Richman, Washington Post

“I’m buoyed by what I’m sampling in this restaurant!” - Tom Sietsema, sidewalk.com

SUCH A DEAL!

Wine drinkers get a break at lunch when bottles of wine on the menu are offered at half price.

Tahoga is names after the original Native American village that existed here before the Europeans arrived. The village Tahoga was a seasonal settlement used in the early spring when food reserves were low and the Potomac was teeming with fish coming up river to spawn.

As hundreds of years have passed, many changes have come to this area. But to this day, villagers and explorers continue to delight in an abundant supply of fresh delicious uniquely American food.

Tahoga takes partial credit for that.
