TEGERFELDEN
CHURCH
The first mention of a chapel in Tegerfelden, was in 1257 a.d. At this time the people had been of the catholic faith, and belonging to the original parish of Zurzach. There is mention in history at the time of the reformation, Zurich sent a lay minister-teacher there in 1529 a.d. to save the town. Until the mid 17th century, the church building was used by both Catholics and Protestants. Between the years 1661 and 1666, the old chapel was demolished. A larger church was erected in its place, and in 1664 the Catholics in Tegerfelden obtained their own chapel. In the year 1800-1824 a.d. records were started by the priest of Tegerfelden and Hans von Wetter-Tegerfelden (of the old noble family line), to keep track of all family history. At this time, each family living in Tegerfelden was given a page on which the family records were written, when a child mairred, a new page was started. These records are a hit and miss but can make it quite easy to trace one's family back to the dates of 1790s and 1800s. Recently, records have been translated into english and put on microfilm that can be ordered through the Mormon Library. You may want to look up the Swiss genealogy link from this site to see if you can find anything. Graves are only maintained for 50 years, then exhumed and replaced with new ones. Cemetaries are limited to space so this has become law.
