Why Michael & Maria Are The True Roswell Couple

I know how it sounds. Michael and Maria the true Roswell couple - ha! They are dysfunctional, petty, silly, and besides - we all know who the real Roswell couple is - Max and Liz! But before all of you Dreamers go psycho on me and fill my inbox with hate mail, just think about what I have to say with an open mind. All relationships have obstacles. Especially Roswellian relationships. What separates the relationships apart is how they dealt with those obstacles. Kyle and Tess shouldn't even be considered a relaionship - rather than a romantic love, they settled for a sweeter, family type of love. Isabel never gave Alex a chance, she was too afraid. They might as well have been a non-relationship too. Max and Tess - DON'T GET ME STARTED. That leaves our Candies and our Dreamers. How they each dealt with their obstacles is what really proves that Michael and Maria and the true Roswell couple. Let's go through their hardships, one by one for you to understand what I mean.

Genetics - That was the first obstacle they all faced, that whole alien/human thing. Liz and Max actually let it matter that they were different. Michael and Maria? They were too busy wrapped around - excuse me, wrapped up - in each other to care.

Fear - Max and Liz FINALLY get together... and they were too scared to face up to their feelings and they broke up. Michael and Maria had their share of fear. Michael was too scared to get intense with Maria, he was too scared to open up to her enough to let her see his flashes... but when he had nowhere else to go, he came to her window in the pouring rain. It was her he needed, her he came to, she was all he had, and no amount of fear would change that.

Destiny - Max and Liz ended with the concept of Destiny. He had someone else to be with, he had a world to save, and where did that leave her? With Michael and Maria, the concept didn't even register. Destiny? Ha! THEY were destiny, they found each other amidst fear and space travel. Sure, he was a soldier that would have to leave someday and not leave some chick waiting for him at home. But the issue wasn't Destiny. It was that he loved her enough to let her go. That was a concept that Michael actually had to explain to Max.

Future Max - The issue wasn't so much the fact that the end of the world was acredited to Max and Liz. We now know that Tess leaving them was an inevitable fact. Future Max changed the course of time, altered it's events... And Tess still left them. There may not be Destiny, but there is Fate. The main point behind this obstacle is the way Max reacted to it. He turned right to Tess. You can say that Max was so hurt by the thought of Liz and Kyle sleeping together that he didn't know what he was doing. But he knew what he was doing when he started to trust Tess. When he started to date Tess. He knew what he was doing when he slept with Tess.

Selfish - This is an obstacle that most lovers face, not just the Roswellians. Do you love them enough to let them go for their own sake? Or are you selfish, and want them for yourselves. In terms of Roswellians, it all boils down to this. Maria and Liz had the choice to love Michael and Max enough to let them go. Maria did, Liz didn't. Michael and Max had the opportunities to leave their loves behind. Max took it, Michael didn't. We are all familiar with the concept that if you love someone enought ot let him go, he will come back to you. Such is the case with Michael and Maria. They were selfless enough to care about the others' happiness. Maria wanted to give Michael the home he always searched for. Michael realised that SHE was the home he always searched for.

Please bear in mind that this is just my opinion. I love Max and Liz, but I just seem to think that Michael and Maria have the better, stronger, more loving relationship. Dreamers, please don't crucify me! JP JP ;)
