Title: 2D/3D Graphic Designer

Experiences: Ryan McCullough is truly a unique and diverse graphic artist. He first discovered his potential with digital graphic arts at Blue Springs South High School, Blue Springs, Missouri, in a Computer Aided Design(CAD) class. There he took every possible class he could get his hands on. Also, just to let his imagination run wild and explore where there were no time constraints, he purchased his first copy of AutoCAD R12. for his personal use at home. A strong sense of destiny consumed him, leading him into the vast world of digital graphics.

Ryan originally sought a college career in Mechanical Engineering, attending De Anza College in Cupertino, California, one of the top five national technical junior colleges. There he took advanced classes in 3D mechanical design and solid modeling. Unfortunately, like many students, Ryan found himself overwhelmed in debt, forcing him to drop out of school to find work.

Not far down the road, Ryan landed his first 3D job at Broadcast Design International Inc (BDI), Carlsbad, California. Under the wing of his esteemed colleague and supervisor, Jeff Ramerez (set designer for CBS Evening News with Dan Rather), he began to hone and refine his talent as a skilled 3D designer. BDI was a very important step for Ryan. There he was exposed to a barrage of composition and aesthetics concepts involved with set design primarily in the area of news broadcast. He would continue for a year with BDI, contributing several key design elements, some which is seen by virtually every person in the United States on the CBS NEWS.

Ryan lived in California for three years when his family roots began to call his name. Despite his love for his job at BDI, Ryan gave his resignation, and accepted an offer to join an architecture firm in Merriam, Kansas. Working for Boice Raidl Rhea Architects (BRR) was also an important stride for Ryan. For the next two years he taught himself a great deal about Fly Through Animations, Large Scale Color Print Production, Color Matching, 3D Landscape Design, and Advanced 3D Lighting. He then utilized his new skills to convert the majority of rendering jobs from fifty-plus hours into 15 minutes. This was a large factor in making BRR architects the dominating firm with their clients involved in architectural 3D design, such as: Wal-Mart, and Lowe's hardware.

Well, after Ryan's learning curve had leveled off while working at BRR, he made his next career move with Rhonda's Custom Photography in Blue Springs, MO. Rhonda was not only a prospect employer, but a personal friend. Rhonda requested Ryan's expertise and employment in October of 2001, just one month after 9-11. Everyone that works with Portrait Photography knows that Christmas is the busiest time of the year. Having just converted to LightPhase, a very prestigious and high end digital photography system, she was in great need for an individual who she could not only rely on to assimilate to her new system quickly, but who could also meet her Christmas deadlines on such short notice. After achieving victory over the Christmas rush, Ryan began streamlining Rhonda's digital process. Through cooperative efforts with H&H Color lab, Ryan learned great and exciting things about ICC Profiles (used for digital color management), Color space management concepts, seamless Photoshop layering touch-up techniques, and writing Photoshop scripts to greatly improve production consistency. All of which are a working process to this day.

Ryan's career took an unexpected curve, and had to break from full-time employment at Rhonda's Custom Photography. It was about 6 months after 9-11 and the economy was slowing down, along with Rhonda's business. New local jobs in graphics were difficult to come by. Ryan once again finds himself faced with adversity in the job market, and is currently seeking a new challenge in his career. In the meantime, he fills his time with classes at Vatterott College majoring in Computer Programming.
