Al's E Flight Page

I got back into RC after a long break and decided that I would take up where I left off 20 years ago, with "electrics".

The urge to fly again came when I was in Shanghai window shopping and I came across a model shop.  The problem I have with model shops is that it's hard to walk out of one without a model in your hands!  I picked up a RTF powered glider the Falcon.

All I can say is that the QC in China is still lacking.  The plane controlled by twin pusher motors.  Power on and the plane went into a straight shallow climb and left turn saw only the right motor running and the reverse for a right turn.  Only problem was that the factory set it up backwards and I didn't even check!

Trying to fly the plane with the controls reversed ended up with a broken wing and various other bits, but I thought that it repairable. When I got it back home, the "wheels" started rolling and I decided that I would have more fun if it had a regular radio in it.  After the mods, the plane was a joy to fly.

Here are some pictures of the conversion.

I was a regular at Ezone and I then noticed that there were a few E flyers from Singapore there too an that's when I decided to try to get a bunch of us together, so that we would have some flying "kaki" as E flyers are few and far between!  I first met with Arnold a.k.a keng Peng, then Joe then Vey and from there the group has grown to about 25 of us.

Here are a few pictures from some of sessions.

My next plane was a Tipsy by Graupner.  Tony had one and recommended it to me.  It's a great little powered glider, that I could keep in the car and fly whenever I had the time.  I had 90 flight's with her, then one morning when I was flying with Joe, I lost it and when straight in.  Here are some of the after and later pics!

The Tipsy is still one of my favs and I still fly her every now and then.  She has even been to Bintang with me on a few occasions!

After the Tipsy, I picked up the Twin Star, by Multiplex.  I had heard good things about the TS, but never believed how fun a pair of stock standard speed 400s could be in a plane.  The TS pulls strongly out of your hand on launch and is a great aileron trainer, which was exactly what I was looking for.

Since then, I have moved on to my current favorite plane, The Extreme Team Su 31, designed by Peter Wallin.  It's a great plane that is capable of alot more stunts then I am able to do

I have since also made an 80% version, but the ultimate would be a 90% version for cheap power sources like the GWS EPS400s with the deep ratios.

This page is still under construction and I will keep adding to it as time permits!
