Week Nine

This week I have been experimenting with ArcView, however this is still at an early stage. I have much to learn as the design is very different from MapInfo.

What I would like to be able to demonstrate is Geocoding. This is a powerful task GIS software can perform whereby a set of data, eg. my 'Surveyors' table, which has address/postcode details, is attached to a table showing the physical location of each one. I have had problems with this so far - a table is required which the software is able to Geocode. I presume this means that the table holds information about which postcode relates to which location. With the UK map I have used there is no such information.

This will be one of my main objectives for the next few weeks - to be able to demonstrate Geocoding.

I feel I have covered most of what is possible with MapInfo. Using a larger data set more powerful analyses could be performed, however I have shown how searches may be performed.
