Le Château de Klingnau

Schloss Klingnau

The beginnings of castle Klingnau lie in the 13-th century. After the foundation of the place on the 26th December 1239 founder Ulrich von Klingen allowed to establish a residential tower. When his son Walther sold the small town 1269 to the bishop of Constance, the castle Klingnau also changed the owner. In the course of the time it received several cultivations. It was a seat of the landvogts of the diocese Constance, resided now and then also the bishop here. In the 16-th century the castle was so ramshackle that it was renovated in 1582.
