Moons

What Are Moons? Moons are bodies of rock, sort of like small versions of planets, that orbit planets as a result of the planet’s gravitational pull. Many of the planets in our solar system have moons. The numbers range from 0 (Mercury, Venus) to 61 (Jupiter). Moons go through phases when viewed from planets, which is caused by the sun reflecting off of them.

As mentioned, moons orbit around their respective planets. The Earth’s moon takes about 28 days to orbit Earth. During this time, it goes through all of its phases. When it gets back to the beginning, it is called a new moon.

Moons come in many different sizes. Some moons can be almost as large at the planet it is orbiting. For example, Pluto’s moon, Charon, is about half the size of Pluto. Our moon is about one quarter of the size of Earth. It is believed that there are also moons orbiting planets outside of our solar system, which makes sense considering that our planets have them.

We have chosen to include the moons on the 7 Wonders of the Universe Tour because they are yet another thing in our universe that amazes us to no end. We all wonder how it got there and what’s it for. Our fascination with out moon has led to dozens of walks on the moon by our astronauts. Moons are among the most facinating things in the universe, and we wanr our customers to be able to observe them and see their true beauty.
