Stars

What Are Stars? Stars are huge balls of gases that produce huge amounts of heat using nuclear fission. They are formed through the release of energy when hydrogen atoms join up with a helium atom. The most well known star in our solar system is the Sun, which provides heat and power to the entire world. Without the sun, the Earth would be completely vacant, as nothing on out planet can exist without it.

There are trillions of stars in the universe. Our galaxy, which is one of billions, contains about 20 billion stars. Multiply that by the number of galaxies in the universe, and you have a huge amount of stars.

Just like humans, stars have a life cycle. They start out as protostars, then becomes mature stars, like out sun, and then after a few billion years, the star will increase in size to become a red giant, and then either cool off and become a white dwarf (small-medium size stars, like out sun), or explode in a supernova.

We have chosen to include stars on the 7 Wonders of the Universe Tour because stars are not appreciated as much as they should be. Stars like our Sun help us live, and without them the entire solar system would not exist. On our tour, we plan on featuring our Sun, a white dwarf star, a star that is about to go supernova, a red giant, and a new star.
