This is the Canadian International School in Bangalore. We studied here and lived at the hostel down the road.
Our hostel on the left.
The road to the school and most of Bangalore is experiencing a building boom, but unlike North America, most of the work is done manually.  This woman is sifting sand for a concrete building. It is progressing at an astonishing rate with very little heavy equipment. It is strangely quiet for a construction site.
Modern concrete and steel construction with retro hand made scaffolding and bracing.  Labour is much cheaper than machinery.
This is the street that we walk from the hostel to the school.
Here is a typical scene on Bellary road, a street a couple of kilometres from the school.
Mr. Praveen teaches us the fundamentals of cricket.
Here we are visiting Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore
This is a market on Kodegehali Road near the school.
Our morning walk to the school for breakfast.
There are dogs everywhere.  They seem to be well fed, shy mannered and very traffic savvy.
Enjoying the construction sand.

Our students are doing community service at Parikrma, an impressive local school for under-served children.
There are three schools serving about 700 children who live in slums or an orphanage that the school funds.
This translates roughly from Kannada as "School alone is not enough. Family, community all help to raise a child."
The school is bright, colourful and well maintained with a guard and numerous trained staff. Some staff have graduate degrees in social work.
The school foundation, with corporate and other funding, supplies uniforms, two meals a day and a protein drink before they leave school. The 47 orphans are bused to and from the orphanage. Our students accompany them and help with homework after school. They are super eager and hold your hands whenever possible.
Lunch time cleanup at Parikrma.
Working on math.
An artist teaches at the school. He had them drawing their dreams when we first visited. The students are encouraged to dream beyond their current circumstances.
Our students helped create posters, organize resources and other jobs at the school.
Pimp this ride! See you soon.
