SEWING TIPS
FROM ALAN:
Buy trousers that have a split band on the back
seam, that has an inlay of cloth to let out if you should put on weight. |
If you have anything shortened when new, ask for the
pieces that were cut off. Keep them for safekeeping; you'll never know
when you may need them. |
If you have extra long legs, don't bother buying
clothing with hyped up prices. Buy trousers or skirts with turned up hems.
They can be let down to accommodate the extra length required. |
Ask for spare buttons when you buy new clothing and
sew them to the inside lining of the garment. |
Try to get clothing altered where you purchase them.
Most quality shops will do this free of charge. |
If your zip tightens after washing, try a little
silicone spray. Most furniture sprays contain silicone. It works
wonders! |
Do not throw out old zipper slides from discarded
clothing. Cut them out. How many times have you pulled a zipper off
in your hand, then lost it? |
In an emergency if your zipper breaks, run it down
to the base, then pull it up again and stitch the closed base together tightly
to stop it from opening. Then phone Alan's Alterations at your earliest
convenience to have it repaired! |
