SEW Report 1/11/03

Reported By Jay Felsberg on 1/12/03.

Great show by SEW in Hartford AL at the Johnny Hughes Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 11. About 300 in attendance (close to a sellout) and here are the results:

Announcers were Black Jack Nathan Savage and Dirty Bird Jimmy Torrentino. Referees were JR and WW.

Kingpin informed the Man, the Myth and the Legend, Blake Richards, that if he attempted to break his contract as part of Kingpin's stable, that it would cost the popular Blake 35 percent of future earnings. Blake pretty much told Kingpin what he could do with his 35 percent and proceeded to deck the notorious manager.

Backstreet Brawler faced down SEW World Heavyweight Champion Luke Goldberg to promo their no-DQ main event. Neither man backed down one bit.

Big Daddy returned from exile (accompanied by Street Bandit) after destroying offices in Tampa among other misdeeds, and demanded a contract from promoter Nathan Savage. He got one - an open contract and an immediate match with veteran Dirty Larry Brock. Dirty Larry put Big Daddy away with a DDT and cleaned house after the match.

Ultimate Dragon with manager Kingpin and valet Georgia faced Silverado with valet Lisa. Another good action match with another DDT finisher, this time applied by Silverado. Silver Bullet and Lord Humungous interfered after the match, with Humungous chasing Bullet back to the dressing room

The feud between Lucious Larry and Backdraft exploded in Hartford as Backdraft demanded and got a dog collar match. Larry was accompanied by manager Dandy Jack (aka "Captain Kangaroo") and valet Ravishing Rachel, who had quite an effect on the men in the crowd and was a considerable distraction throughout the match. Both wrestlers were split wide open in the brutal, no DQ battle. Backdraft pulled out the win despite interference by Dandy Jack, and Backdraft chased Kingpin away from the ring after the match.

NOTE: Kingpin was present at almost every match with Georgia and appeared to be scouting for prospects for his stable.

Action resumed with Big John Harley and The Original Roughrider, TJ, resuming their feud. The smaller TJ hung with the big biker (thanks to illegal tactics and interference by Mr. Fantasy), but an attempted chairshot was fed back to TJ, and the big man closed it out with a powerbomb. TJ's manager, Kingpin, attempted to use what looked like brass knuckles on Big John. Not a good idea, and Kingpin was helped from the ring after Big John cleaned house.

Intermission. Promoter Savage announced that the next Dothan show will be at the Houston County Farm Center on Saturday, January 25, 7:30 p.m. SEW will return to Hartford at the Johnny Hughes Community Center on Saturday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Fantasy and valet Sexy Samantha faced Kid USA in a high-flyer of a match. KId USA "borrowed" Kingpin's black cowboy hat before the match as Mr. Fantasy drew considerable heat for trashing Hartford. (Best line was that Hartford people hang out at the Hardee's for fun). Sexy Samantha did her best to interfere and get MF a win, but Kid USA hit a backdrop for the win.

Forsaken, accompanied by Sin and valet Hellcat, faced Blake Richards accompanied by valet Trysten. Blake received by far the biggest pop of the night when he hit the ring. This was an excellent matchup of two very good young wrestlers. Hellcat and Sin did their best to help Forsaken (Hellcat and Trysten even went at it). Sin spit blood into Blake's face and Forsaken used a mean chairshot, but the popular Blake took the win and cleared the ring afterwards.

Main event was a no-DQ war between the Backstreet Brawler and Luke Goldberg. Both were cut open and used everything at their disposal. The tide of the match swung back and forth as the two SEW superstars battled in and out of the ring. Chairs, tables and even the concession stand were not safe. It looked like the Brawler was in control, but as he was bragging to the crowd about his "intelligence", Goldberg came up behind and rolled the Brawler into a small package for the win.

After the match the furious Brawler took on everyone from the referees, security, and Silver Bullet, to Kingpin (who the Brawler called into the ring and coldcocked), and even a member of the Hartford Rescue Squad trying to move the battered Kingpin on a gurney.

During intermission and after the card the wrestlers stayed around to sign autographs. Brawler thanked everyone for their support and promised an even "bigger and better show" on February 8.

Overall, a great night of wrestling. This is the first match in Geneva County in some time (the last one was promoted by a guy who is in Geneva County Jail for various frauds), and the crowd was pretty much into every match. Once they get familiar with the wrestlers and the storylines interest should grow. Several fans for the twice- monthly Dothan shows were present in Hartford.

Look to the Geneva County Reaper, Hartford News-Herald and The Samson Ledger for feature coverage, results and photos in the Wednesday, January 15 edition. (Shamelessly plugging my meal ticket)

See you February 8!!!!!
