AWF Report 6/28/03

AWF junior heavyweight, TV title action in Hartford

By Jay Felsberg

Correspondent

The American Wrestling Federation returned to Hartford, AL. The Saturday, June 28 match was the last one planned for the Johnny Hughes Community Center for the foreseeable future.

Sinn (accompanied by Miss AWF, Hell Kat, and Forsaken) and Jason Hero (accompanied by Amber the American Beauty) led off with an action-packed matchup. Sinn was at his arrogant (“confident” according to Sinn) best as he took it to the popular Hero early in the match. Sinn even took a “water break” and delivered an excellent “Sinnaroonie” as he too control for much of the match (with the help of his tag-team partner). Hero was not to be denied, however, as he tried to apply the Stars & Stripes legdrop. Sinn blocked the attempt, but Hero knocked Sinn off the top turnbuckle and hit the S&S for the win!

Street Bandit (accompanied by Melissa), Backdraft, and the maniacal and increasingly unpredictable Curtis Leroy met in a three-way hardcore battle. All three wrestlers got their licks in (using a variety of available objects), but Leroy took control with Florida Flapjacks on both his opponents. However, Melissa distracted the crazed Leroy, who set the lovely valet up for a Flapjack of her own. Bandit came to the rescue with a chairshot, and before Leroy could recover Bandit delivered the Streetsweeper (a wicked DDT) and made the pin for his first victory in the AWF!

Street Bandit is one of the rising stars in the AWF and looks better every week. The young wrestler is constantly improving, and his win in the rugged three-way match may mark a turning point in his future.

There was also no letup in the heat between Backdraft and Leroy after the match. The two clearly despise one another, and look for more action between the two in the future.

More hardcore action followed between Forsaken (accompanied by Hell Kat and Sinn) and Kris Korrupt. Forsaken was in control for most of the brutal match, with KK getting his licks in with his kendo stick. The match ended after Forsaken covered Korrupt with a chair and a STOP sign and hit a Swanton off the top for the pinfall. A dazed Korrupt was helped from the ring by security.

Ronnie Fargo (accompanied by Valerie Velvet) defended his title against newcomer, Redneck Stephen Lee. A fan that saw Lee work before said that Lee would give an excellent account of himself, and the fan was correct, as the newcomer gave Fargo all he could handle. Heat developed very quickly between the two, as Fargo mocked Lee with his “House of Pain” rap. Fargo was in charge early, but Lee took over and worked on Fargo’s injured left leg. Lee even got Fargo in a figure four before the champion reversed the hold (no easy task). Fargo hit a Frankensteiner for the pin, but Lee delivered a superkick after the match and looked to be ready to lay some damage on Fargo. However, Valerie Velvet distracted Lee, and as the challenger chased the beautiful valet into the ring Fargo hit a kick and the Fargoplex for a second pin! After the match the two continued to jaw, and it looks like a rematch may be in the works.

Luscious Larry rebounded from his first-round loss in Chipley to beat Confederate Kid and even the TV title series at one-all. Kid did his damage early, but Larry methodically wore the Kid down and hit the Luscious Slam for the pinfall. It was Larry at his best both in the ring and on the mike, as he told manager Dandy Jack to let the Kid hold the TV title belt, “because it’s the last time he’ll ever hold it”. Kid made it clear that he will be ready to take Larry down and win the title on TV over the July 4 weekend.

Czr and Assassin met in the main event. The masked man made it clear that, as always, fans are not allowed to take his picture, and delivered a few choice words to a few choice fans. The two big men had a rough match, and Assassin got the win when Czr pitched him over the top rope, which is apparently a violation of AWF rules. Czr reminded the Assassin that if he won by anything but pinfall he must unmask. The Assassin complied, whipping off his well-known yellow mask to reveal and gray mask underneath! “Did he think I was stupid”? Assassin asked backstage after the match.

Next match will be Saturday, July 5 at Roulhac Community Center in Chipley. Match time is 8 p.m.

NOTE: The position of “Luscious Doll” is open for one or more lovely ladies. According to Luscious Larry, “Candidates must be outgoing – bashful girls need not apply”. The Luscious One said that, candidates must have an “overwhelming desire to do anything for their moment of fame”. No further information was made available as to what “do anything” includes, but interested candidates can contact Larry on the Fans of American Wrestling Federation Yahoo Groups site, or see Larry at house shows.

NOTE: Once again, it was not a good night for Dandy Jack. Several fans found toy kangaroos at a Dollar General store and brought them to the match, infuriating Jack and chanting, “Captain Kangaroo” over and over again. Fans are once again urged not to chant CAPTAIN KANGAROO – CAPTAIN KANGAROO – CAPTAIN KANGAROO and hold up toy kangaroos of any sort. Also, fans are urged NOT to hold up page three of the AWF Wrestling Express and show a picture of Jack getting “panted” by The Weasels in Ozark. Jack is a distinguished manager of champions and is very sensitive, so fans are asked to behave themselves around Jack. His reaction is always rather lively. Rumors of an enlarged color version of Jack being panted in Ozark being available in Chipley on July 5 can neither be confirmed nor denied by this reporter.
