AWF Report 6/21/03

New champions crowned in Chipley

By Jay Felsberg

Correspondent

It was a night of changes in Chipley at the American Wrestling Federation’s June 21 card, as two titles changed hands before a large crowd at the Roulhac Community Center.

New AWF Commissioner Blake Richards was confronted by Canadian heel Aeon Flexx, who proceeded to lavishly compliment the commissioner, informing Richards that, “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”. Flexx demanded a title shot against Czr for the AWF Heavyweight Championship, and said that if he won, that the “boneheads” doing the music must play “Oh Canada” in Flexx’s honor. “Consider it done”, Richards said.

Next, Richards called out Chief Little Bear, co-holder of the tag team belts with Raine Quapone. Quapone was unable to be in Chipley due to a serious illness, so Richards informed Little Bear that he, the commissioner, would choose Little Bear’s partner from the audience to defend the belts against the Daltons. Richards chose Romen McKain from Atlanta.

Next, two names were drawn by a child from the audience for a best-of-three match tournament for the new AWF Television Championship. The names chosen were Confederate Kid and Luscious Larry.

First on the card were Ghost Face and Lost Avenger (managed by Dandy Jack) versus The Daredevil and Kid USA. There was a bit of confusion when Ghost Face expressed his surprise at teaming with Lost Avenger (“THIS is my partner”?). However, the match went on with plenty of high-flying action (including a moonsault to the gym floor by Kid USA, and a jump off the top turnbuckle to the floor by Daredevil), and ended when The Daredevil hit Ghost face with a sensei for the pinfall. Ghost Face and Lost Avenger destroyed their opponents after the match, allowing Dandy Jack to get another of his series of “pinfalls”.

Next up was Street Bandit (accompanied by Melissa) versus Ryan Fury in one of the best matches of the night. Melissa was a big help to the Bandit as she distracted and interfered (i.e. choked Fury), but Bandit showed plenty of skill on his own. Bandit gained control and took the action to his opponent until the popular Fury turned the tables on Bandit. Bandit set up a chair in the corner, but Fury slammed Bandit into the chair and delivered the Omegadriver for the pinfall.

Luscious Larry (accompanied by Dandy Jack) met Confederate Kid in round one of the TV tournament. There is no love lost between the popular Kid and Larry after a series of incidents involving the two at various junior heavyweight matches, and it was obvious that the first TV match would be a rough one. The Kid was in charge early and worked on Larry’s left arm. The Luscious One came back with what the “poorly informed” would think was a “chokehold”, (or so Larry noted after the match, telling this reporter that, “I am only focused on the TV title, and I will do whatever it takes to win it), and took control with a German suplex as Jack hunted for objects under the ring. Jack finally found a traffic sign (several are conveniently placed under the ring, or so it appears), but as he lined the Kid up for a sign shot, the Kid slipped out of the way and Jack nailed Larry right between the eyes, splitting the Luscious One wide open. The Kid then hit the Southern Star for the pin and the win in round one.

Things were a bit tense between a badly bleeding Larry and Jack after the match, with Larry wanting to know how Jack “could be so STUPID to get me mixed up with Confederate Kid”. Jack’s answers were less than satisfactory to the Luscious One, so Larry informed his longtime manager that, “If I lose one more match because of you, I will take it out on you”!

NOTE: It was not a good night overall for Dandy Jack. Several fans found toy kangaroos at a Dollar General store and brought them to the match, infuriating Jack and chanting, “Captain Kangaroo” over and over again. Fans are once again urged not to chant CAPTAIN KANGAROO – CAPTAIN KANGAROO – CAPTAIN KANGAROO and hold up toy kangaroos of any sort. Also, fans are urged NOT to hold up page three of the AWF Wrestling Express and show a picture of Jack getting “panted” by The Weasels in Ozark. Jack is a distinguished manager of champions and is very sensitive, so fans are asked to behave themselves around Jack. His reaction is always rather lively.

ANOTHER NOTE: Rumors of an enlarged color version of Jack being panted in Ozark being available in Chipley on July 5 can neither be confirmed nor denied by this reporter.

YET ANOTHER NOTE: The position of “Luscious Doll” is open for one or more lovely ladies. According to Luscious Larry, “Candidates must be outgoing – bashful girls need not apply”. The Luscious One said that, candidates must have an “overwhelming desire to do anything for their moment of fame”. No further information was made available as to what “do anything” includes, but interested candidates can contact Larry on the Fans of American Wrestling Federation Yahoo Groups site, or see Larry at house shows.

Jason Hero met Mr. Fantasy (accompanied by Sexy Samantha) in an excellent, hard-hitting contest. The popular Hero was pounded by Fantasy early on, but hit back with a spear and went up for the Stars & Stripes legdrop, but Aeon Flexx charged the ring and hit The Real American Hero as Fantasy distracted the referee. Fantasy then delivered the Fantasizer for the win over Hero.

The distaste between Hero and Flexx is heating up more and more every week. It got even hotter later that night…

As always, Mr. Fantasy was extremely abusive toward his lovely valet, Sexy Samantha. Fantasy grabbed Samantha several times by the hair to drag her back to his corner, and grabbed Samantha’s hair to drag her off after the match. Thing got even worse at intermission, as the lovely and popular Samantha was signing autographs for several children, when Fantasy burst out of the dressing room. He screamed abuse at Samantha for signing autographs and talking to fans, and dragged her back to the dressing room screaming more abuse.

A brutal hardcore fight between Backdraft and the maniacal and increasingly unpredictable Curtis Leroy (accompanied by Dandy Jack, Lost Avenger and Hell Kat) was next. The rugged firefighter and Leroy used everything they could get hold of in the match, as Leroy hunted under the ring for objects throughout the contest. Everything from street signs, to chairs, to some sort of hand hammer was used, as Leroy used the hammer to cut Backdraft wide open. Lost Avenger made the mistake of getting in Backdraft’s way, and had a trashcan deposited over his head for his troubles. Leroy won, but the war continues between he and Backdraft.

Forsaken (accompanied by Sinn) met Junior Heavyweight champion Ronnie Fargo (accompanied by Valerie Velvet), and the champion was on it that night with his “House of Pain” rap and a few questions to Freakshows of Faith (”In this little relationship, who plays the man”?)

Fargo was on the offensive early, but Forsaken took control as Sinn distracted the referee. Forsaken is one of the smartest wrestlers in the AWF, and he quickly hit on Fargo’s injured left leg. Sinn continued to distract the referee as Forsaken kept the pressure on Fargo, but the champion came back with a quick kick and the Fargoplex for the pinfall. Fargo had to be helped from the ring and was clearly suffering the effects of the knee injury, which occurred several weeks ago.

Little Bear and replacement Romen McKain met the Daltons (accompanied by Renae) for the tag-team titles. The Daltons were, as always, rather full of themselves and were laughing at young McKain as he came to the ring. “THIS is the punk whose gonna' beat the Daltons”? Jesse asked. “I can take the night off”, said Steve.

As it turned out, Steve was needed after all. Little Bear kept the pressure on the two big cowboys when he was in the ring, but the Bear had almost no time to work with his partner before the match. When McKain was in, it was time for the Daltons to tee off on the youngster. McKain did his best, but he was no match for the veteran Daltons (Renae helped with a slap to the unfortunate newcomer). There was one tense moment for the challengers when Little Bear hit Jesse with a body block for a near pinfall, but Steve made the save and he squashed McKain for the pin and new tag-team champions.

Czr defended his heavyweight title against Aeon Flexx, and match was a great one from the start. Control swayed back and forth between the two, with the big man from Las Vegas gradually wearing down the Canadian heel. The climax came when Czr was thrown into the referee, who was knocked to the mat. Czr hit the Wishmaker and covered Flexx for way more than a three count, but with the ref out there was nobody to make the count. Sinn was wandering around the ring and came up onto the ring ropes. As Czr confronted Sinn, Sinn spit blood in to Czr’s face and Flexx hit the Flexxcapacitor for the pinfall as the dazed referee came to his senses.

After the match Flexx and Sinn joined to give a beatdown to Czr, but Ryan Fury and Jason Hero stormed the ring and cleaned house. Commissioner Richards came to the ring and after considerable jawing back and forth, informed “Little Czr” (Richards and Czr have a long-time rivalry) that he will NOT get a rematch for the title. However, it looks like there will be more heat in the future between Jason Hero and Flexx. Flexx mocked Hero and Hero had his say, and it looks like a match between the two will be made in the near future.
