AWF Report 5/03/03
Reported By Jay Felsberg on 5/03/03. American Wrestling Federation report for May 3 Another large crowd was on hand on Saturday night, May 3, at the Roulhac Community Center in Chipley. Not only did the tag-team belts change hands, but Commissioner Karen McDaniel also announced a tournament for the now vacant American Junior Heavyweight Championship. Announcers were Dirty Bird Jimmy Tarrentino and Blackjack Nathan Savage. Commissioner Karen McDaniel stepped down as an announcer to take a more direct role in everyday activities of the AWF. As events of the evening proved, the commissioner has her work cut out for her! Popular newcomer Ronnie Fargo defeated Damian by pinfall in the opening match. The match featured Fargo’s high-flying technical skills against the power and wrestling savvy of “Pure Evil”. In the end, Fargo’s valet, Valerie Velvet, distracted Damian to allow Fargo to get the pin. After the match, the masked Assassin came to the ring. The Assassin noted Damian’s recent string of defeats, and promised that if “Pure Evil” put himself under the Assassin’s tutelage, that record will change. Damian appeared interested in the Assassin’s proposal. Backdraft and the Confederate Kid again dueled for the Kid’s Junior Heavyweight crown. For the second week in a row, Luscious Larry (temporarily incapacitated by a broken leg), manager Dandy Jack and valet Risqué Rachel noisily came to ringside to “scout” the match between the two popular faces. The two wrestlers put on another excellent technical match, but both were felled by chairshots delivered by the Luscious One and his devious manager. The Kid got the win, but Commissioner McDaniel stormed the ring to address the crowd about Larry and Jack’s interference. McDaniel noted that, “This is what I’m talking about” in reference to her announcement earlier in the evening. The Commissioner announced that a tournament will be held for the AJH belt, and that Larry will not be allowed to take part. This clearly agitated the Luscious One and his crew, who raised considerable sand before Larry announced that, “You will still have to deal with me”! Ryan Fury and Cowboy Jesse Dalton did battle next. His new valet, Renee, who he “lifted” from Street Bandit at the previous show, accompanied the big Texan to the ring. The match was an exciting rough-and-tumble affair, which ended in a double count out. Renee used Dalton’s bull rope very capably on the popular Fury at one point in the match. The last match before intermission featured dynamic newcomer Mercury McCloud against the increasingly unpredictable Curtis Leroy, accompanied by Dandy Jack. Leroy raised havoc in recent weeks, largely at the expense of Ceazar. Tonight, the havoc was delivered to McCloud, whose scientific skills and energy at times baffled Leroy, who stalled several times during the match (at one time prompting McCloud to sit in the crowd while he waited for Leroy to get control of himself). Leroy gave as good as he got for most of the contest, but in the end the maniacal Leroy lost control of himself and was disqualified. Leroy’s behavior (which even Dandy Jack could not control) prompted another visit to the ring by Commissioner McDaniel (who Leroy appeared to threaten with a chair). The Commissioner fined Leroy $500 and told Jack to get his wrestler under control in future matches. The first match after intermission featured popular Jason Hero against Canadian heel Aeon Flex. The two men are having a bitter rivalry and this match was among the best of the night. Both wrestlers have the scientific skills to match one another, but Flex’s anti-American attitude clearly makes for an angry “True American Hero”. That motivation may have been the “little bit more” that Jason needed, as he won the match with a Hero Splash for the pinfall. Chief Little Bear and Raine Quapone challenged Freakshows of Faith, Sinn and Forsaken, for the tag-team championships. The big man from Detroit is only the most recent of Little Bear’s partners as the chief continued his efforts to win tag-team gold. This was another great tag matchup as FOF went to all extremes to hold on to their belts, and Little Bear and Raine used every move at their disposal to take the titles. In the end, it appears that past sins on the part of FOF did them in. As Forsaken mounted the top rope to finish off Raine, however, Zac McDaniel rushed in and pushed Forsaken off to hit the canvas. Raine applied the Rainedrop and the tag belt changed hands! A few weeks before, FOF ganged up on the younger McDaniel as he was honoring the memory of his late father, the immortal Wahoo McDaniel. Paybacks can be hard…. The Assassin had his hands full with former seven-time WWE tag champion, Road Dogg Jesse James. It was a vintage Road Dogg promo to open the match as he made short work of the “Ass-sssinnnn”. Road Dogg has been a huge favorite during his tour, and the fans hope he will stay in AWF for a long time. Main event – the world title match between Ceazar and The Man, The Myth, The Legend, AWF Champion Blake Richards. The match was prefaced by a challenge by Richards to the big man from Las Vegas for an arm-wrestling contest. “Get ready for a gun show”, said the champion, as he showed off his “24-inch guns”. Sadly for The Man, The Myth, The Legend, his guns fired blanks during the climactic battle, as Ceazar did not break a sweat and even took a call on his cell phone as he hurled the champ into the corner of the ring to conclude the contest. The actual match was excellent, with the power of Ceazar and Blake’s quickness and ring savvy featured throughout. The champion was in serious trouble as Ceazr took control late in the match, but The Man, The Myth, The Legend kept his belt when Curtis Leroy stormed the ring and laid out Ceazar with a large metal tray. Mercury McCloud made the save, and the rivalry will continue in Hartford on March 10 at 8 p.m. |
