AWF Report 4/05/03
Reported By Jay Felsberg on 4/05/03. The American Wrestling Federation was in action on April 5 at Roulhac Gym in Chipley. Raine Quapone faced Ghostfaced Killa (accompanied by manager Dandy Jack and valet Hell Kat). The big man from Detroit got in most of the offense, but Hell Kat distracted the referee and Dandy Jack used a chairshot to get Ghostfaced Killa the pinfall. After the match, Raine made it very clear that after being screwed for several weeks in a row, “I will not get screwed again”! In an excellent scientific match, Confederate Kid met Junior Heavyweight Champion Backdraft. The match featured many of the technical moves popular with AWF fans, but a double chairshot busted both wrestlers wide open, and led to a double count-out. Both popular wrestlers had to be helped from the ring. Brian Fury faced Luscious Larry (accompanied by Dandy Jack and the very distracting Luscious Gals, Rachel and Shelly). “Ain’t it great to be me”? asked the always modest LL as he took his time shedding his expensive silk robe. “I’m here in all of my majesty and my splendid glory”. Ryan Fury got in most of the early offense, leading to several breaks in action as the Luscious One left the ring. The popular Fury looked to be in command after a powerslam off the top turnbuckle and a Rey Mysterio 619, but Fury missed a moonsault and Larry took over. A Luscious slam, a spinebuster and a side suplex led to the pinfall for the most popular heel in AWF. NOTE: Manager Dandy Jack was again the subject of catcalls from the fans, calling him “Captain Kangaroo”. Despite several attempts to quiet the fans, Dandy Jack had no success getting the fans to stop their harassment. The Marianna High School wrestling team was present and was recognized for their great season. Freakshows of Faith, Sinn and Forsaken (accompanied by Hell Kat), put their tag-team titles on the line against Chief Little Bear and Damian. Sinn got things off on the right track by calling Damian Chief Little Bear’s “tag-team partner of the week”, and the action was non-stop throughout the match. The challengers were in control early, but the champions doubled up on Damian to take charge themselves. The champions took the win after Forsaken smashed a Stop sign over Little Bear’s head and Sinn made the pin. After the match, “Pure Evil” turned on his partner and chokeslammed Little Bear. “Little Bear lost this match, I didn’t lose it”, Damian later told the crowd. Then the son of legendary Chief Wahoo McDaniel, Zack McDaniel, came to the ring. “Little Wahoo” is a year away from beginning his wrestling career, and it was the first anniversary of the death of his father. Zack led the crowd in a moment of silence in memory of the great Wahoo, and announced that he would keep his father’s legend alive. Zack was attacked by Sinn, but fought back until Forsaken entered the battle and the tag-team champions put a double suplex on Zack. Little Bear cleared the ring, and Zack told the crowd, “It ain’t over – I love you Dad”! The Assassin met Ronnie Fargo in the first match after intermission, and threw fire on Fargo. The Assassin then attacked referee Dirty Larry Brock, but the veteran referee and wrestler gave as good as he got before the Assassin put Dirty Larry down with a cheap shot. The day was saved, however, when former WWE superstar Road Dogg B.G. James arrived to run the Assassin from the ring. Dirty Larry raised Road Dogg’s hand in victory and stormed back to the dressing room to continue matters with the Assassin. Jason Hero met Aeon Flex in a USA vs. Canada match. The battle ended when Flex used a 25 MPH road sign he grabbed from under the ring to clobber Hero and get the pinfall. Ceazar met Curtis LeRoy, and the action spilled out of the ring before Leroy used the ropes to pin Ceazar. Ceazar demanded a rematch, and the big man from Las Vegas got his wish from Commissioner Karen McDaniel for April 19 in a no-disqualification match. The main event was a non-title match between the Road Dogg and AWF Champion Blake Richards, The Man, The Myth, The Legend (accompanied by valet Tristen). It was a memorable match as Road Dogg hit every one of his old promos and the champion gave the match of his life against one of the best in the business. Experience paid off as the Road Dogg put MML down for the pin. Aeon Flex and Jason Hero tangled after the match, with the Dogg and Hero clearing the ring. That set up a tag-team showdown on April 19, 8 p.m., at Roulhac Gym. |
