Interview With Cabana Man Dan

Chris: How did you get your start in Pro wrestling?
CMD: Actually, its sort of funny the whole way it was fate playing a huge role in it. My friend Phillip (Lethal Rapper) and I went to the local Movie Gallery in Glencoe, AL. We stopped over in the wrestling section and started talking about it. The manager that was currently working there must have noticed us talking about it and asked if we knew about this place in Centre that holds wrestling shows on Saturdays. She also mentioned that they just started running a month or so before hand and might need a few more guys. So here we are, thinking of 'our big chance.' We go the following Saturday and watch the show, afterwards we have a word with the WCF owner (at the time) Clarence Keith about a training school or whatever. A few weeks or so later Rapper and I started good ol' training with Chief Little Lynn. Then we just went on to finish, added a few more friends with us to training, and then had ACL knee surgery which kept me out from late January to around May.

Chris: Is it everything you thought it would be?
CMD: Its greater than I could possibly imagine! I could have never imagined that around over a year ago, I just did this with a group of friends in a backyard. Its just taboo the way everything just fell together in perfection (for the most part.) There is nothing better than that pumped up feeling you get waiting for your music to hit, people cheering for you and booing anyone who you face. Its just something I can't beleive is happening.

Chris: What are some goals you have set for your career?
CMD: It is a little bit early for me to be setting goals but I beleive I have reached a few of them. I've always wanted to wrestle in front of my friends and family. People who know me as CMD outside of wrestling. Each week I have a goal of performing to the best of my ability and giving everyone their money's worth.
As for long term goals, I want to be an established wrestler either in the independant circuit in the United States, or landing a spot in NWA: TNA.

Chris: You recently defeated Michael Plezing for the ACW Title, Tell us a little about that experience? Was there any build up to the match, or you showed up at the arena and was told you was getting the title?
CMD: Oh the experience was euphoric and I could never have that sort of emotion for anything ever again. Being 17 and winning over a veteran like Plezing, its like a landmark in my career. I was literally fighting back the tears. There wasn't a very lot of build up for the match. I've been on a tremendous hot streak in the past few weeks getting some wins here and there. I made the save on Axl Faulker when he got jumped in a match by Plezing and his opponent Kornerstone. Either Plezing or I issued a challenge, all I knew is that I had a World Title Match. Boy, was I a bag of nerves.

Chris: Tell us a little about the match itself?
CMD: It was mainly just an actual wrestling match, I picked up a number of close pinfalls. Plezing had good sportsmanship throughout the majority of the match, shaking hands, not cheating, etc. But when I offered my hand after he did a move to me, he cheapshotted me and became the Plezing we all hate. He had me close to defeat with his Old School Claw, he applied it two consecutive times. I think he was out to kill the fan favorite of CMD. He exited the ring and grabbed a vacant chair. Plezing then entered the ring with it, but good ol' Richard the Referee took it away and they started to quarrel. I've had a good while to recover from the submission holds and I motioned to the turnbuckle. Plezing and the ref finally stopped their scuffle, but it was too late CMD gets an unsuspecting Plezing with a Top Rope Crossbody for the pin.
It was just so amazing from that point, even though people like me and everything, they mostly doubted that I would get the duke against the seasoned veteran.

Chris: How did you get involved with ACW?
CMD: After a span of a few months with WCF in Centre, they announced that they will be moving once again to an outdoor venue. I saw that things weren't gonna be very good very much longer. A friend of mine, Mikey Nelson, told me about ACW and they might give someone with decent ring experience like myself a tryout. Lethal Rapper and I went to Albertville that weekend. Mikey introduced us to Mickey Henry and in good faith between Mikey and Mickey, we were given a spot in an already packed card. We were the second match and obviously we did a good job.

Chris: If you could start over again, would you change anything?
CMD: What is there to change? I haven't had much fault with anything so far. Its almost been a year into the business. I don't see it slowing down for myself any time soon, but gradually picking up steam.

Chris: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
CMD: I see myself still wrestling, but this time around the country or even around the world. I love traveling anyways, and wrestling while I'm traveling would be something that I would never let go of.

Chris: Anything else you would like to add?
CMD: All I can say is that if you have dreams and goals, never let go of them until you reach them. And once you reach them, make new goals to pass.
