A RUSSIAN JOURNEY

In July 2001 we went to Russia on holiday.
In order to see as much of the country as possible in the least amount of time, we opted for a river cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
After booking with Intourist, the Russian travel agency, we bought a guide book which told us of the dangers of doing so. But we needn't have worried; the only problem we encountered was a failure to return our passports which they required for the visa application.
They eventually turned up with our flight tickets, five days before we were due to travel.
We had to travel via Heathrow on the outward journey but the return flight came into Gatwick. It was no extra inconvenience for us as we used the shuttle from Manchester, but it must have been awkward for people who parked their cars at Heathrow on the outward journey.
On arrival in Moscow we were immediately taken to our cruise ship which was moored at the river station, some five miles from the city centre.
