At last, Saint Petersburg.
The weather was glorious for the three days we spent there and we sweltered in the non air-conditioned tourist bus as we waited in countless traffic jams, trying to get to places. It was all worth it, however, as Saint Petersburg is a magnificent city.
The building you see here is the Catherine Palace at Tsarkoie Selo, the Royal Village. In Soviet times it was called Pushkin after the great Russian poet who went to the Imperial High School here. The interior of the building matches the opulence of the exterior and visitors are required to wear over-slippers on their shoes so as not to damage the floors.
