The town of Zaandam, just north of Amsterdam, is visited primarily for its popular outdoor museum De Zaanse Schans. This "village" preserves many windmills and houses in regional style with the aim of presenting local life as it was in the past. Many ancient crafts are carried out there and the windmills are still used in the production of mustard, paint and oil. For anyone staying in the Amsterdam area this place provides a pleasant change from the hurly-burly of the city. |
