The Muhammad Ali mosque is contained within a large fortress known as the Citadel.
There are a number of other buildings contained within its walls and if you walk towards the eastern side of the ramparts overlooking the city you will catch this view of two other famous mosques, the Sultan Hassan (on the left) and the Al Rifa'i.
The latter contains the tombs of the royal family of Egypt, from the Khedive Ismail Pasha to Farouk.
