Vincent Valentine

In FF7's Vincent Valentine I see a man who's lived through what the rest of us would consider a true nightmare. We have something more than he does however; because we can always wake up, something that we oft times take for granted. He's my personal favorite of 7's characters, his dark and forboding nature something that is actually a treat. Sure it's nice to know everything about each character, to have them readily offer up whatever bits and pieces of their past as disc memory will allow, but it's also nice to have a character like Vincent come along, someone that you know practically nothing about-and as an added bonus, you have to basically wait half the game to actually discover much about his past and then it's only in brief glimpses. In the entire Final Fantasy series, I believe he's my mirror character thus far, meaning that he's the character I can identify with the most. Several people like him simply for his main features, the dark, moodiness and, of course, his weapon, but there's just something deeper to Vincent that what the game allows us to see. He's been alone all his life, or atleast it's easy to picture that he's spent a lifetime by himself. He's lost the only person he's ever truely loved, but from what we've seen, she didn't exactly welcome him with open arms. There have been several theories in fan fictions that Vincent was Sephiroth's father and not Hojo, but I for one never did see this. There's also another believe that the claw on his left hand is a mechanical part of him, I don't believe this one either, but mind, you, these are simply my opinions. I've always seen the claw as a glove that could be removed should he so desire, it just fits Vincent's personality to maintain the killer image. This facade though, on several occasions, seems to drop for even a split second and we can see the true feeling behind the "monster". Such occurances are Aeris' death (if you've elected to have him in your party) and Hojo's defeat (again, only if you have him in your party). From all these subtle clues we get a picture of a man who's been haunted by his past, who's made mistakes that he's beaten himself up over, and who wants nothing more than to repent for it in whatever way he can.

Limit Skills

Galian Beast
Vincent will transform into a blue behemoth and either pummel the enemy or use a fire based magic attack. Berserk Dance is a bit weak at first and only attacks one enemy at a time, but is the most common of the two skills Galian Beast will use. Beast Flare is the more powerful of Galian Beast's attacks and hits an entire group. Just be careful who you use it on, as it is fire based.
Death Gigas
Vincent will basically transform into Frankenstein on steroids and, again, use either a physical or magic attack. Giga Dunk is a powerful physical attack that hits a single enemy for fairly good damage, but as with Galian Beast, it's the magic attack that is the more useful. Livewire is a lightning based attack that hits an entire group, but as with the first limit break, make sure you know your enemy before transforming.
Hellmasker
This one's obvious if you've ever seen Friday the 13th. Vincent will basically transform into Jason and use one of two attacks: Splattercombo will hit a single enemy five times with his chainsaw and the amount of damage is generally cumulative, it often will start low and build by the fifth hit. Nightmare is a status based attack instead of elemental, so it'll work on just about any creature providing they're not immune to status effects. The negative effects include: confusion, frog, poison, sleep, silence and mini.
Chaos
Chaos is, obviously, Vincent's best limit skill. The physical attack, Chaos Saber, attacks an entire group instead of just one enemy and acts like Slash-All. Satan Slam is a non elemental death attack that either causes instant death, or physical damage when flaming skulls pummel the opposition.

note that although powerful, I often avoid using Vincent's limit skills during boss fights because you do lose control over him. I tend you use him as a medic for the rest of the party, and believe me, sometimes it's awfully nice to have one character that you commit almost souly to healing the other two.
