Supporting Cast

Final Fantasy VII has scores of supporting characters. From ShinRa's executives, to average citizens, there are tons of people for you to interact with that actually assist the storyline. We'll start in Midgar, with the ShinRa executives.

The Executives

President ShinRa is the heart and soul of ShinRa Inc. at the beginning of the game but is quickly killed off by Sephiroth during the group's raid of the company's Headquarters in Midgar. Little is known of him, save for the fact that he is callous, ruthless and rather rotund.
Rufus ShinRa is the president's son and only heir, thus VP of the corporation and takes over upon his father's death. More ruthless and cunning than the elder ShinRa, Rufus sets out to rule the world more through force than manipulation.
"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Palmer is the head of the space program and shows up from time to time during the game. In Rocket Town, his purpose to steal the Tiny Bronco is thwarted, but he does get a few licks in with his Mako Gun. A slovenly coward, Palmer exceeds grossness by requesting lard (of all things) with his tea.
Scarlett thinks she's dead sexy with her split to the waist dress and bobbed hair. She's more an annoyance than anything, and it's a treat to cut her and her Proud Clod down in Midgar, "kyahaha".
"Gwahaha", I agree with Rufus, stop with the horse laugh and get some work done. Heidegger essentially runs around laughing and blaming other people for his mistaks, it's a treat to melt him down with the Proud Clod as well.
Hojo, Hojo, Hojo, where is that rock you slithered out from under? Hojo is another good villain in the shadows. He's the reason you're after Sephiroth in the first place, and he's just a downright nasty person on the whole, I say boooooo to you, professor.
Ah, Reeve, the sensible, and sensitive executive who actually does care about the population. Reeve's role at the beginning is slight, but you soon learn just how important he is to you once you discover he's controlling Cait Sith.

Non-Executives and Others

AVALANCE
Barret's pals in AVALANCE, Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie are among the first supporters you'll come across. Though you only have minimal contact with them, they do provide a bit of extra reason for Barret's involvement in the chase for saving the planet and destroying ShinRa Inc.

Weapon Maker
Across the rapids heading toward Gongaga there's a small cabin. There won't be anybody here at this point in the game, but return later and there will be a man here who makes weapons. The problem is he just doesn't have the right materials. If you've gone to see the sleeping old man, this is your chance to use the spoils of waking him. Give the weapons maker the mythril and he'll let you open one of his safes. Choose the smaller one upstairs, it contains Aeris' final limit skill, Great Gospel. You can also rest here for free.
Zack and his Parents
In the town of Gongaga you'll meet a middle-aged couple who'll ask you about a SOLDIER named Zack. If Aeris or Tifa are in your party, they'll react to this and run out.
