Rufus and the Turks

What's a good story without a group of people, being chased by a group of people? Rufus and his bodyguards, the Turks, add a lot of flavor to a story that would actually be rather cut and dry without them. The first time you play this game, you're constantly on the lookout for these guys, they lurk somewhere in the shadows ready to pounce you around the next corner, and often catch up or cut you off when you'd least expect it. In all, you run into either the Turks, Rufus, or the two combined more than a dozen times throughout the story and you're actually confronted in battle by the Turks about six times, one of which you have the option of declining. In all, they're just plain cool characters, and they keep you readily on your toes, see a flash of blue on someone who walks onto your screen and it makes your mind immediatly go to the Turks, likewise if it's solid white, although you only battle Rufus himself one time. My personal favorites of the group are Reno and Rude, obviously. Who can't help but like these two? A spunky, baton wielding rulebreaker and his ever-constant buddy, the monolith whose catchphrase is "...". These two are essential to the game not only for some added humor, but as a reminder that there are two forces you need to be aware of, Sephiroth, and ShinRa Inc. Rufus is another perfect villain. He simply doesn't care about anything or anyone but himself. His death is actually one of the more monumental FMVs in the game, the defiance in his eyes before the blast from Diamond WEAPON hits is a wonderful testiment to who Rufus is, he knows it's game over, but he's ready to look it in the eyes. Tseng and Elena, though for the most part overlooked, are also essential to the group as a whole. Every team needs a rookie, and Elena may not be the brightest watt in the bulb, but she adds a spark of naivety to the unit. She's outgoing, though often sorely outnumbered, and is constantly chided, but there's an air of concern amongst her teammates and they actually do care about her wellbeing. Tseng on the other hand, the leader of the pack, is the definition of calm and collected. Nothing sets him off, he keeps his head even while awaiting his own demise. All in all, the game would lack a considerable amount of it's charm and appeal without these characters, and would not be the Final Fanstasy VII we've all come to love.

Statistical Information

Weapons

Baton
Reno has the largest selection of attacks to choose from. His weapon of choice is basically a cattle prod that he uses for both blunt force and for a shocking special attack called Electropod. It's also assumed that the baton gives him the source of power he needs for his Pyramid attack. He only uses this special when you confront him on the pillar in Sector 7, but it paralyzes one of your party members, luckily it's simple to get rid of. Later on he'll add the confusion inducing Turk Light when you're confronted by him and Rude in Gongaga. Choose to fight the Turks in Midgar's Sector 8 and Reno absorbs lightning, so be wary of Ramah and group targetting lightning attacks.
Shotgun
The shotgun is Rufus' choice of weaponry. He has no special attacks, just blasts away, but his companion, Dark Nation, will cast Barrier and MBarrier on him so it's important to start off the fight stripping Rufus of his pet.
Fists
Rude prefers to use his barehands, no gloves, no special weaponry, just good old-fashioned bare fist fighting. His special is called Grand Spark and is not something to be taken lightly, he can cause some major pain with it. He's also the medic of the group and will often cast restorative magic. If you choose to fight the trio in Sector 8 of Midgar, Rude absorbs fire, so be mindful of summoning Ifrit and Phoenix or using group based fire attacks.
Palm
You only have the opportunity to battle Elena once, and when confronted, you have the option of declining. If you choose to fight, she generally stands back and either attempts to confuse you, or uses her special Flame Light. If she does physically attack, it's a slap, but can do some substantial damage. In Midgar's Sector 8, Elena absorbs ice, so avoid Shiva and other ice based magics that target the entire group.
unknown
You never actually have to fight Tseng during the game, so it's unknown what weapon he prefers, if any.
