FF7, disc 1 walkthrough
Disc One
It begins in the city of Midgar, a tower consisting of plates upon which the citizens dwell. It's almost the very essence of claustrophobia, and a ticking time bomb of anguish. The beginning FMV displays Aeris, a character you'll meet soon enough and lose at the end of disc one, which is a real bummer if you're playing it for the first time and you buff her up with experience. (My advice? Don't waste your time beefing Aeris up, you have several other characters to choose from with better limit breaks and their value to you is far greater.)You start out the game hopping off a train, your party at this point consists only of your main character, Cloud (who you can rename, thank God!). Search the two downed guards for potions, then head up the stairs. You'll be attacked by more guards, but they're pushovers. Once inside, you'll meet up with the rest of AVALANCHE, and their leader, Barrett, will join you. Now you'll work your way through to the reactor's core, it's pretty straight forward. Once down there, you'll set the bomb and get confronted by the Guard Scorpion. This boss is easy, both of your characters should actually achieve their limits and if not both, then atleast one of them should. About five hits in, the boss will lift his tail. Don't attack him at this point, just heal yourself, attacking causes the boss to counterattack with a fairly tough laser. Okay, the next bit is simple enough, make your way back to the save point (which you shouldn't need, but better safe than sorry) and head up, make absolutely sure you assist Jessie or you'll have to waste time to go back down for her after you can't get through one of the doorlocks. Once out of the reactor, you'll run into Aeris, literally, go ahead and buy a flower from her, it's only a gil for cryin out loud. Retreat to the bar in Sector 7 which is owned by the third character for your party, Tifa, and get the chance to use that flower you bought. (My advice? Tifa's a keeper, her limit break combines into one of the most powerful in the entire game, so beef her up and get all of those skills!) Now you'll be going to blow another reactor, this trick turns bad and you end up seperated from Barrett and Tifa, and you'll meet up with Aeris again--you'll remember her, you ran into her after the first reactor gig--in an old church. Now you can carry on some pleasant conversation before in walks the first of many obstacles you'll face for the rest of the game, Reno of the Turks. You won't have to fight him, but you do have to elude him, this is done easily with the aid of three of the four barrels in the rafters. (hehe, I'm not gonna tell you the sequence, because you most likely already know it and besides, it makes it more fun when you nearly bean Aeris instead of one of Reno's flunkies)
