Barret Wallace

Barret Wallace is a mountain of a man with a heart of gold. His cause is something he believes fully in, and he'll stop at nothing to see to it that his goals are obtained. He's a character we can indentify with on several levels. He blames himself, and is blamed by others, for an incident that he could in no way have caused or countered, yet people need someone to blame and insteand of turning inward, they seek out someone they rest all of their hatred and woe upon. He also faces a moral dilemma of whether he should fight and endanger himself or stand in the shadows and direct to prevent further trauma to the little girl he's taken to raise as his own daughter. Barret is a character easy to feel for, he's lost everything he had, including his family and his best friend, to a company that it is his life's goal to shut down, but he's bounced back with a vengeance. He cares for the daughter of his best friend, whom he has to confront and ultimately help destroy, this makes for a character we can all have a little feeling for. He's also a top notch fighter, and with only three open slots on an active party, it's difficult to leave him behind on occasion, but such is the way of Barret. I tend to use him for shere power, give him a few boosters, but I don't load him down with materia, he's not a magic user, he's a powerhouse of physical force best used up front. In a typical team scenario, I generally choose Barret if forced to keep Aeris, give him a cover materia and let him keep her alive. All in all, he's my fourth favorite character of the game.

Limit Skills

Level One
Barret's level one limit skills start with Big shot, a non-elemental attack that is also long range. At the beginning of the game it's generally more powerful than Cloud's Braver. Mindblow is a non-elemental, non-physical attack that saps an opponent's magic power. This skill is extremely useful if dealing with a magical powerhouse, but doesn't work on some enemies. It's excellent in Wutai when dealing with Rapps.
Level Two
Grenade Bomb starts off level two with a bang. This attack hits an entire group with explosive, non-elemental, damage, therefore it's wasted on a single enemy. Hammerblow, however; attacks only on enemy and is the least useful of the two. It causes no physical damage, simply removes an enemy from battle, thus it's useless against bosses.
Level Three
Sattelite Beam begins level three off well, attacking an entire group or single enemy with non-elemental damage. It's effects, however; are best suited for multiple opponents. Ungarmax allows Barret to unload some major firepower onto his opponents and is also better used on multiple enemies. It hits more times than Sattelite Beam, but each hit is slightly weaker.
Level Four
Barret's greatest limit skill, Catastrophe is a powerful, non-elemental, attack that deals out damage to either a group or single enemy, but as before, it's best against a group.
