For many years Doctor Who has continued without a series shown on television, aside from novels the most prominent source of new Who adventures has been audios,some official, some not. Audio Visual Adventures was made by and for fans, they took the Doctor and the TARDIS to new realms and adventures throughout time and space using a combination of old Who mythos and new concepts and ideas. While they are no longer available through official channels, sometimes you can luck out with em through fellow fans. BBV Audio came in and did stories. that were Doctor Who like using Past Doctor Actors and companions, we met the Professor and Ace, who became Domani and Dorothy aka the Time Travellers...as BBV continued they got ahold of licenses to do stories of Romana (Mistress) and K-9, various Who aliens and even the Rani returned recently. The best known audio source though has to be Big Finish Productions, these folks convinced the BBC to let them do new OFFICIAL Doctor Who stories and was eventually granted the ability to do just that. Securing the initial services of Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy, the fifth, sixth, and seventh Doctors respectively, they began to unleash new stories in 1999. Now well on into the latest year, Big Finish has gotten a new gem to add to its collection of Doctors, Paul McGann, the Eighth Doctor, is BACK. After a several year absense from Doctor Who since his tv movie debut in 1996, he has done several new stories and its been recently announced that he will be doing more!
So while the Doctor is off of tv, The TARDIS roams the multiverse in new and exciting audio adventures.
