Can't You Dream?

What nightmare can you see,
what age can you dream.
Water glistening against
the light, and me backed behind my friends
Me terrified of the deep dark watery grave
of flowing anger and no breath
Can't you dream?

The nightmare continually rising, my heart pounding
Blood rushing through my blue veins
"I'm really scared"
I said with crocodile tears
Can't you dream?

I see the water coming
Ever so closely to my body
As if I'm being tugged at the arm
The nightmare growing strength
From my weakness
Can't you dream?

My friends, supposedly loyal and true
Mostly mock, laugh, and cry
"Just jump in!" they say
My nightmare, my terrifying fear
To die in a breathless pool of dreams
Can't you dream?

Still crying "I can't swim!"
I scream tears falling
My friends laugh hysterically
Like a pack of wolves going in for the kill
I feel sheer terror

My body shaking
And my mouth screaming
And my arms being ripped off
Can't you dream?

I see it glistening, flowing
With anger waiting for me
Calling me. Mocking me.
The glistening pool of dreams
Can't you dream?

Finally by strength I am
let go, I run in the opposite direction
of my nightmare, the glistening pool
of mocking dreams.
Can't you dream?
