Some Annoying Weird Problems

Top Gun was a great movie that springed a few games. Remember Top Gun for the NES? Well Spectrum Holobyte decided that Top Gun should be taken to the PC. So how is it?...

Well I must say the control is pretty good. Now I have a joystick. The Microsoft Sidewinder, so if you don't have a joystick I can't help you. Use the keyboard for somethings like putting your gear up, and enabling your flaps etc.. Sometimes the control can be unresponsive which akes away from gameplay and adds some noticable slowdown.

A few VERY annoying problems are included in the package. Sometimes if you do a barrel roll to close to the ground/water and you have the no crash option on, you'll be stuck and have to be forced to start the mission again. Landing is a pain! Once you get the hang of it its no sweat but learning it is a problem. Something else is that after you complete the mission you have to select"end mission" from the options menu. But sometimes when you do it you get court martialed or something like that!

You control Maverick, hot shot pilot who is selected to go to a special dog fighting school called Top Gun. You set out to win the Top Gun Trophy. But you have one rival (who is equal to Ice Man from the movie) Stinger. But eventually it'll turn into something much more then just going to school! You must stop global problems, and defend your country from others. Before I give the whole thing away I'll turn to the...

Graphics are good. High amount of detail that overlaps other detail which turns into one messy platter. The graphics are highly pixelated. The pixelation is highly noticable and is very sad because the game would've been great if it weren't for these problems. Also the graphic are definatly un-polished. There are blocky parts to everything.

The movie FMV is okay. They got some low profile actors to play the parts of a reporter named Amanda Moore, Hondo Your Commanding Officer, and others. Some are from the movie while others aren't.

The detail in the game is neat. You can see all the featres like the gear, and the flaps depending what view your using. Explosions are cool. Look like real flames and everything. The ridges in the mountains however are a little waterdown and so is everything on the ground. Just a bunch of colors mixed together.

The music is horrible on where its supposed to be. In an action packed mission you'll hear calm music, but when your flying a rotine, boring mission you'll hear some action packed stuff. None of the music is inspiring. Which was a big disapointment.

The sound effects are OK. There is break-up in the voice acting, which is annoying. The explosions don't sound like explosions to me. It's all wrong. The voice actors do support their characters pretty well (ThankGOD).

The game is super addicting despite all it's flaws. It really hooks you on the military feel. But please if you get this game..buy a joystick.

Graphics: 6/10
Replay: 9/10
Control: 8/10
Sound: 5/10
Overall: 6/10

I love it but from a reviewers stand point its a really flawed game and if I didn't like it the score would be lower.
