Review-

Well I always did love a space shooter/simulator. Although there aren't very many good ones, Psygnosis was willing to take a chance in the genre. Well they did a spectacular job. Colony Wars is a beautiful game with deep gameplay that will make you never want to put the controller down. Once you start playing you will be treated to some very cool FMV and in the backround voice sounding like James Earl Jones.

Beautiful graphics that'll make your tounge roll right out of your mouth. Eye-popping detail on the ships is beautiful. You would have all the little wires and connectors like in any sci-fi movie on the ships that make them look so cool and realistic. From the landing port to the huge planets in the backround Colony Wars is great.

The only problem (being as paticualar as I am and being a reviewer I find it my job to spot these things) which you shouldn't encounter much is pixellation if you get close to the bigger battleships, and sometimes fly right through them! You shouldn't encounter it that much, or maybe not at all. The FMV cut-scenes are the definition of beautiful. From the cool ships shooting their lasers at enemys to them just flying around it's all just great looking stuff.

Of course many people hate FMV, Colony War's scenes are just great to look at. Think of it as a reward. Colony Wars has the coolest explosions and special effects. Once you destroy a battleship enjoy watching it just blow up right in your face. The explosions are awesome to just watch and think "Sucker...." The music is great listening to those classical beats while you go blow up the baddies.

On missions that are very exciting the music will go really fast like a tradgedy is happening every second. The Sound effects are great, from the explosions boom to intel telling you little things to do the sound is good. When you go into an FMV you'll hear a voice in the backround. My only question is: Is that James Earl Jones? I really wonder about that. Well it's REALLY cool that Psygnosis got a got a good voice unlike someother games.

The game isn't focused on a story really so it doesn't matter much. You play as a pilot from the "League of Free Worlds" trying to win your freedom from "The Navy" by pushing them into a warphole for good. Now it sounds like a good story but is just doesn't go with the gameplay. Basically the story is good, but when your in your craft you aren't going up there to fight the Navy just to get alot of fun out of it.

The control is perfect. You can use the Analog option if you have a Dual Shock. Since this game was made when the Analog controller was just and Analog and no rumble there is no rumble. Controlling the ship is like usual press up to go down and press down to go up. My only gripe is the radar. The radar is a 3-D this which is shaped in a sphere. There are dots on them, those are the ships in the battlefield. It took me a while to figure out how to use it. The gameplay is great. Just go up there and shoot those baddies down.

Use the blue laser to lower the sheilds and the red one to blow up the hull. The enemy A.I. is another thing that makes this game great. The enemys don't hold back for their life. They'll shoot their missiles at you and show you no mercy. Most of their ships aren't as strong as yours (duh). The enemy battle ships are very cool when they attack. The enemy A.I. is great and will give you a hard time trying to beat it.

Analog Support: Yes.
Memory Card: 1 block.
