Welcome to my tributepage to
the unique and talented Manu Katché.

I'd like to start this page sitating his former employer; Peter Gabriel:
...Before that first night in the studio, I hadn't heard a note Manu played,
but he just sat down and blew me away. I remember him really getting into the music...eyes looking heavenward,
a big smile on his face. It was magic...
...He's a tremendously stylish individual. He makes the rest of us look like scarecrows.
Perhaps the other members of the band would resent that remark.
Well, certainly he makes me look like a scarecrow...

Manu Katché, born in the City of Light (Paris). The year was 1958.
Manu started his musical career playing piano when he was seven years old.
He stayed with that instrument for three years.
He also took dance-lessons during this time. Classical ballet! Though he preffered playing football or whatever....

His grandmother played classical violin, his grandfather accordion,
his mother did some opera before he was born and his father (beeing from the Ivory Coast) played drums.
(His father left when he was two years old.)
Manu felt that the drumming were just in him. Sort of a gift.
He started off drumming on boxes and stuff at the age of thirteen. Started studying drums at fifteen.
He studied both at a school of classical music outside Paris and at the classical conservatory in Paris.
Years of band-playing was soon to come!

Before joining the "Brightest Stars" on the U.S. of A.'s Heaven of Stars
he had played with the biggest name's in France.
After getting tired of different styles of works back home, he went overseas.

His first big thing to do in America was the Peter Gabriel gig. Kickstart so to speak.
This again lead to work with Sting, Joni Mitchell and others!

Manu's contribution-list is tremendous. For the full list, click here.
