Charles H. Dees, Sr., was born May 23, 1844. Siddie Wilson was born December 31, 1851. They were married (?).

They had seven children: Charles H. Dees, Jr.; Annie Elizabeth Dees, also known as Lizzie, born March 4, 1874; John Wilson Dees, born February 20, 1876; Siddie Dees, born March 3, 1881; Minnie Dees; Will Dees, and Henry Hubert Dees, also known as “Hub.”

Charles enlisted as a Private in the Confederate Cavalry, 1st Alabama Regiment, (Company T?), in Montgomery County, Alabama, in 1861. In 1863 he was discharged and enlisted into the Confederate Infantry, 1st Alabama Regiment, Company B, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was discharged and paroled in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1865.

According to historians, the 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment was organized on November 12, 1861. Companies were recruited from several central Alabama counties, including Butler. They reported 588 present for duty in the Battle of Shiloh. They also fought at Boonville and Blackland. They moved into Kentucky as part of the command of General Joseph Wheeler. They were engaged in Perryville. They eventually suffered heavy losses at Murfreesboro. The 1st Alabama Infantry was under the command of General John Bell Hood in Tennessee, losing heavily at Franklin and Nashville. They transferred to North Carolina and fought at Averysboro and Bentonville.

Lizzie married William Dunn , who was born September 26, 1870, in Butler County, Alabama. William and Lizzie made their home in Greenville and had a total of five children: Ruth, born July 4, 1898; Little Brother, who was born July 1, 1900, and died November 14, 1901; Sidney Wilson, born 1902; Esther, born October 28, 1904; and Mary, born November 7, 1906. William died on December 16, 1941. Lizzie, also known by her grandchildren as "Granny Dunn," died July 23, 1952. They are buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville, Alabama.

John married Kate Bishop, who was born February 22, 1881. They had four children: Edward Graham Dees, John Sidney Dees, Lucille Dees and Eleanor Dees. Kate died May 18, 1949, and John died July 22, 1957. They are buried together in Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville.

Siddie married Joseph Leonard Hartley, who was born May 22, 1876. They had one child, Minnie Agnes Hartley, who was still born November 14, 1905. Joseph died July 20, 1935, and Siddie died January 8, 1954. All three are buried together in Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville.

Hub married a quite prominent woman in Atmore whose family owned the only bank then in Atmore. He was the mayor of Atmore for several terms and served as President of the Alabama League of Municipalities.
