Our First Car - '85 Chevy Impala

These are the pics of our very first Derby car. It WAS an 1985 Chevy Impala powered by a (are you ready for this?) massive buick 262 V6, that didn't run very good to begin with. We knew the car was slightly underpowered but didn't let it stop us. We built this car as best as we could, and since Peter was the only one old enough to drive it, he drove it. We built what we thought was a good car, but when we got it too the track, all of the local vets gave us many hints that we figure helped the car last as long as it did. If it weren't for the help we got from some of the Orono boys, we probably wouldn't have got it ready for the hard luck heat. The car did reasonably well, even though it stalled every hit given or took. What took the car out of contention for the feature was that the + battery cable melted and killed the engine. (alternator was not hooked up) But we learned a lot, and got the Derby fever started in each of us. Peter, Matt, And Greg.

The Camera Broke so we didn't get any before pics of the car.
