Summer Of 2000/01 - 1983 VOLVO GL!!!!!!!

We finally picked up what is the toughest mini car out there. It seems that everyone got to take a turn with this car, and the damn thing is still going.....barely. It got first action in Port Hope on June 30/00. Peter drove it and gave and took a few good smacks until the right control arm broke. This is what they are known for. After a disapointing outing, we got it fixed the night before the Campbellford derby, which is our home event. Greg drove it to 4th place out of a fair size mini heat. There was some substantial damage to the ass end. It now looked like a hatch back. It still ran amazingly though. A few weeks later was the Belleville Demo. Matt's first time drive. And there were at least 14 other volvo's there alone. Not to mention all the other sunbirds and what not. After several punishing arena shots given out by the sturdy car, it was done. The last hit i gave out i parked my front bumper on top of a hyundai excel's passenger seat. After that hit the motor shifted, and punctured a hole in the oil filter. We put it away for the winter assuming it was finished. Then we brought it back out retirement to compete in the Tweed Winter Derby. There was a good turnout. We did lots of work on the motor to get it running stronger than ever. We even made new motor mounts for it. (ones that wouldn't break) The car ran superb and hardly bent at all. Considering it's so bent already, there's hardly anywhere it can bend. Peter drove it again, but this time he got 3rd place in the feature, $50 and a trophy. After Tweed, We let it sit until June 30. We dug it back out of the pit and Drove it in the Canada Day Derby in Port Hope. Pete took it and laid out a wicked pounding on the competition. He was physically hurting other drivers in this car it was so strong. Due to a Driver/Clutch malfunction though, he was counted out in third place an only 1st and second got money. We tried to revive it again for the home derby but the strut tower fell apart when we were working on it. So for now 5 derbys is all we're gonna get out of it
