WHAT ARE OUR PURPOSES?

WORSHIP

-love God with all our heart, mind, body, and soul

FELLOWSHIP

-love our neighbor as ourselves

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Matthew 28:18-20

"Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

-"commission": in Armed Forces, officer’s commission; standing order; if you never receive another order, you know what to do

-Great Commission: Jesus gives standing orders for the rest of our lives

    -Jesus showed them how to live, not how to be religious

    -taught them to teach others

    -strait forward, assertive, definite

  4. Who, and Where, and How Far Are We to Go?

    5. -all nations

    -in Acts – the ends of the earth

    -as we go, be initiative, not passive

    Jesus came and found us; He didn’t wait for us to find Him

    God is for EVERYONE, in EVERY class and position of life!

  5. We are not expected to do it alone

- "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

-our work is not just to receive salvation, but to bring it to others!

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"

What a wonderful message!

**So What is a Disciple?

-not a religious word, or a church word

-apprentice, student, learner

*Qualities:

-teachable; humble

-disciplined

-submissive

-inquiring; hungry to learn
