Fellowship
What is fellowship?
Sharing, unity, a society
Hebrews 10
Christ has everything, we don’t need distracting practices to be a believer
10:19-25
"
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised us is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
-"Most Holy Place" – representation of where God is.
Campus Modes of Thought
-Church is a building, not a people.
-A place for how we feel and what we get out of the religious experience
*We don’t come to get, we come to give*
-Never in the New Testament does this happen; there’s no single Christian people who didn’t have a group to be with.
-Hebrews warns: "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing…"
Verse: 24
-"consider": we need to make being considerate a habit
-the mind is always looking for a way to help brothers and sisters
-make it natural
-"spur": not a pleasant thing
-it’s not just advice, GET BUSY! Kick Yourselves into Action!
-with the right attitude, we can spur each other on
-"love": no greater love has a man than he who lays his life down for his friend – ULTIMATE LOVE
-doesn’t mean being a wimp or pushover; love them by NOT being that
-"good deeds": good works. We are not saved through good works.
-through consideration and love we will naturally do good works.
Verse: 25
-Hebrews considered traitors because they weren’t participating in sacrifices. Faith was under fire. Were getting killed and hunted
-Got into the habit of not meeting together
*We Need Each Other*
It’s encouraging to see others putting forth the same effort as us. "Spurs" us on.
-"the Day": the end of time
-the point? Things aren’t the best now, but there is a day coming when everything will be perfect
-Jesus is on His way to rescue is! Hold on without letting go, Christ will always meet our needs!
