"That's not a bad thing is it?"
He smiled. "No, not really." Kate took off her jacket and put it down on the other bed in the room. Although her pants weren't tight, Brian noticed a large rectangular box in her pocket, but forgot the thought when coming to a conclusion that it was her wallet. She walked around Liz's bed to the side where Brian was seated.
Geez, I have to get his attention away from her, and over to me! To her Brian seemed mesmerized by Liz, he didn't even look up when he talked.
"Brian," Kate said sitting on his lap in between he and Liz. She placed her hands on his cheeks and turned his head to face her. "I want to get to know you better. Tell me about yourself."
"Like what?"
"Well, stuff that isn't in newspapers and books."
"I don't know Kate. Most of the things that aren't in the newspapers, are things that I don't tell too many people."
"Brian, I won't tell a soul of what you say! Now, I know this is a sore subject, but uh… What happened with that girl you were seeing… What's her name… Leighanne?"
"Oh, god…" he started. There was a long pause. Brian felt so uncomfortable not directing his attention to Liz, especially when she was in her current state. He felt that he was betraying her. He couldn't even see her from where he was, due to the fact that Kate was sitting on his lap.
"Brian," she said putting her hands on his shoulders. "It's okay."
He paused for an answer and told her this, "Well, when she and I started dating, Nick had a huge crush on her, but after a while he got over her. About a week before the two of us broke up, it came up in conversation, and she found out that he had a crush, but that it was over now. The next week she dumped me. The next morning I went over to Nick's place to talk, and what do I see when I pull up, but her car parked in front. Se had just arrived because I remember the engine was warm still. I walked up to his apartment, and the front door was open. So I walked in, and I heard some talking coming from his bedroom. When I turned the corner to his bedroom, there was she and Nick. She had broken into his apartment about ten minutes before. Then she took off all her cloths at the foot of the bed. She was standing over him naked, waking him up when I entered the room."
"So she dumped you for a man over ten years younger than herself!" Kate shouted.
"Uh, yeah," he said with pain in his eyes.
"How did Nick react?"
"When he opened his eyes he screamed at the top of his lungs because he was so scared of what was about to come. He just covered her up with the sheets and stuff. When he screamed I kinda woke up from a trance, and I screamed too. They realized I was there and screamed. He made her get dressed and leave."
"Awe, poor Brian!" she said hugging him.
"I know Nick wouldn't betray me. Even if I wasn't there."
"Yeah," she whispered moving her face slowly toward his.
"Listen Kate," he said trying to stand up. "I'm not really comfortable kissing you here in the hospital when my best friend is unconscious."
"Then let me do the work," she said pulling him close and practically sticking her tongue down his throat. She jumped up and put her legs around his waist and started unbuttoning the collar of his shirt.
