Lauren's Fanfic

Chapter 17

Megan watched from above as her sister was lifted onto a stretcher, put into the ambulance, and driven away to the hospital. Megan usually stays calm during emergencies, but when she saw her sister being carried onto the beach, not breathing and unconscious, she lost it.

Although the two sisters often fought when they were young-and sometimes nowadays too-Liz had always been a support system when things were going wrong for Megan. When Megan left Kentucky for New York, it was a huge change in her life. In high school Megan had been popular, acheived good grades, and always had friends to back her up. At NYU, she knew nobody, her friends had all gone to other colleges and universities. Megan had to spend 95% of her time studying to get good grades. Her classes were no longer a breeze and the people in New York seemed so different to her that she only made a few friends. Through it all Liz was there for Megan. Although Liz was a few states away and they only saw each other during holidays when there both visiting home, Megan would call Liz a few times a week and they would sometimes talk for hours at a time.

After Josh had performed CPR on Liz and she was breathing again, Megan couldn't take it anymore. She had to get away. She had ran down the beach and climbed up a hill. Now all she could see was the distant red lights of the ambulance. She was a little relieved that Brian had gone in the ambulance with Liz. Megan knew that she would pass out if Liz was alone in the ambulance. She watched Riley and Laney start folding all the towels and cleaning up everything in the area.

"Megan?!" Nick shouted, searching the beach for his new girlfriend. Only minutes ago he was right by her side and now she disappeared. "Heather, Amber, have you seen Megan?"

"I haven't," replied Heather.

"I think I might have seen her run that way," Amber said pointing down the beach.

"Thanx," Nick said, running off. "Where did she go?" He asked himself, getting worried. From where he now was, he could see down the beach and Megan was nowhere in sight. He stopped running. He turned in circles wondering where she could have went. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her baby blue bathing suit. He looked up and saw her sitting with her face in her hands crying on the top of the hill. He ran up to her. When he reached her she looked up at him. Nick reached out his hand and pulled her into his arms. For a few minutes she sobbed on his shoulder. "Liz is gonna be Okay, Megan. You don't have to worry about her, she'll be fine," Nick said trying to comfort her. There was no way he could know right then if Liz would be okay. Both Nick and Megan knew that, but somehow his words comforted her.

"C'mon," she said. "Let's go to the hospital," Megan said walking down the hill with tears still rolling down her face.

"Megan, do you want me to take you over to the hospital since Nick has to drive some of the group back to Liz's house to get their car?" asked AJ when Nick and Megan arrived back on the beach.

"Oh, yeah, I forgot about that!" said Nick.

"Um, no thanks, AJ, but I sorta wanna stay with Nick." she said, clinging to his arm.

Everybody headed back to Liz, Riley, and Laney's house. Megan changed out of her wet bathing suit, while Nick went over to Brian's house and got him a change of cloths. Riley, Laney, Darren and Zach decided that they would go to the hospital in a few hours. They knew that Megan and Brian wouldn't want tons of people around and they didn't want to sit in the waiting room for hours, so they waited at the house by the phone, waiting for some information.
