Charles Henry Bostick: He was the 4th of eight children of Toliver Bostick (1811-1909) and Elizabeth (Epperson) Bostick. Charles Henry was born 4 Oct. 1845 in Cherokee Co. Ga. and died 18 Jan. 1929 near Winfield, Ala. in Marion Co. He was a farmer, hard worker and live a simple live. He apparently lived a ritual life and was a good provider for his large family. He was the father of fourteen children of which all were respected citizens in various areas where they lived. He had more than seventy-five Grandchildren.
When those terrible Civil War years came along, he volunteered his services with the Confederate Army, and fought for the cause he thought was right. He served under General Forest. He was assigned to Co. D with the 10th Ala. Calvary. He was in a battle in Noonan, Ga. and the Battle of Atlanta. He was captured 20 miles North of Selma, Ala. He was paroled in Montgomery, Ala. at the close of the war. He was a member of the Masons.
He was married three times. He outlived his 1st two wives. He was married 1st, to Lucinda Frances McDonald, on 30 Jan. 1867, in Fayette Co. Ala. (Mb. 1 Pg. 67) She was born 5 May 1845 in Ala. She died 13 Apr. 1887. Her name has also been found spelled Loucinda. She was a daughter of Allen G. and Nancy McDonald. Nancy's Maiden name was not found. The McDonalds were found, on the 1860 census of Marion Co Ala. dated 21 June 1860. They were enumerated in the Western Div. Pickneyville Dist. page 526, family #314, as follow, Allen G. McDonald, age 36, Blacksmith, born, Ala. Nancy, age 38, born Ala. Soloman, age 15: Mary, age 14: Julia, age 13: Lucinda, age 12: Lucatia ?? age 9: Nancy, age 2 and John 10 months. Soloman was born in Ala. and the other six children were born in Miss. as per the 1860 census. It was not found where in Miss. they were born. The youngest, John, being 10 months old in 1860 and born in Miss. indicates this family moved back to Ala. in 1859. Charles Henry Bostick and Lucinda Frances Bostick had eight children. More on their children later.
Charles Henry Bostick married 2nd, Malinda Millie/Milly Vaughn on 10 Dec. 1887 in Marion Co. Ala. (Mb. 1 Pg. 34) She was the youngest of six known children of James William Vaughn and Matilda Richardson Vaughn. Matilda (Richardson) Vaughn was born 28 Feb. 1834. She died 9 Apr. 1905. She is buried in the Mt. Pisquah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion Co. Ala. Family tradition is that during the Civil War, Union troops tied James William Vaughn to a tree, and burned him alive. The marriage record of Charles Henry and Millie’s marriage records m1entioned, they were married in the bride's mother's home. After the civil war, Millie’s mother, Matilda married Nathan Chambless. It is believed that Nathan Chambless died in Franklin Co. Ala. Millie was born 13 Dec. 1843 (Probably in Ala.) and died 16 May 1906 in Tishomingo Co. Miss. She is buried in the Ridge Cemetery in Itawamba Co. Miss. At the time of her death, they were living nearby this Cemetery in Tishomingo Co. Miss. Charles Henry later moved back to Marion Co. Ala. They were listed on the 1900 census of Marion Co. beat 14, Winfield Dist. Page 243 family 263. They moved to Tishomingo Co. Miss. between 1901 and 1904, based on their 5th child was born in Ala. and their 6th and youngest was born in Tishomingo Co. on 19 Aug. 1904. More on their children later.
Charles Henry Bostick married 3rd, Drusie Harbin (1872-1958)
She was 27 years younger than him. This was her 1st marriage. They were
married on 18 July 1907 in Fayette Co. Ala. (Mb. C Pg. 109) Her name, may
have been Elizabeth. She was a daughter of John and Mary "Mollie" (Adkins)
Harbin. Charles Henry had an Aunt Nancy Bostick who married Robert Harbin
in Cherokee Co. Ga. and settled in Marion Co. Ala. It was not found if
there were any relationship between these two Harbin families. Her father
may have been the John Harbin, who was on the 1880 census of Fayette Co.
Ala. page 615. Listed were, John Harbin, age 35, born in Ga. no wife, Robert
M, age 10: Elizabeth, age 7: Albert J. age 2. The Elizabeth, age 7 would
be born in 1872 or 1873. This could be Drusie as the age checks out. Drusie
was a member of the OES. Charles and Drusie had no children. It is said
she was once pregnant, but had a miss-carriage.

(1) William Byrd Bostick was the 1st of eight children
of Charles Henry Bostick (1845-1929) and his 1st of three wives, Lucinda
Frances McDonald (1849-1929). William Byrd Bostick was born in April of
1868 and died between 1903 and 1910 in Comanche Co. TX. It seems he died
about 1907. His middle name "Byrd" is a family name found in Cherokee Co.
Ga, where his father was born but no connection of the Byrd family to the
Bosticks was found.
He was married to Mattie/Martha F. Cadell/Caddell/Caudle on 9 Jan. 1889 in Fayette, Ala. in Fayette Co. Judge Holland Bell performed the ceremony. They were eight children born to their union of which two died infant, and one died in her teens.
This family was one of the most difficult families I researched. Various members of the Bostick families in Ala. and Miss. told me that William Byrd lived in Cisco, TX. in Eastland Co. I researched the area in 1989, but no luck. I did find some Bosticks buried there, and one who was living there. These Bosticks at this time did not seem to belong closely to my Bosticks. I gave up and returned home. In 1993, I located William Hollis Bostick Jr., a nephew of William Byrd Bostick, who is a Methodist Minister in Huntsville, Ala. He did not know where in Tx. his grandparents lived. He provided me with an old photo of his grandparents of four of their seven children, dated 1899. On the photo was printed, Dublin, TX., which is in Comanche Co. TX. This Co. joins Eastland Co. Cisco TX, being the nearest town where the Railroad had a terminal. (More on this later) This old photo gave me the clue to check the 1900 census of Comanche Co. Tx. and there they were. This census dated 30 June 1900, records them living in Precinct #5 and family #438. Listed were, Wm. B. Bostick, b. Apr. 1868 in Ala., age 32: Martha F. wife, b. Feb. 1874 in Ala. age 26: This census listed they were married 11 years. This census listed Martha as having six children, with four living. Note: From this we know two died before 1900. The four children listed on the 1900 census were, Minnie B., b. Dec. 1889 in Ala. age 10: Leondis D., b. Jan. 1892 in Ala. age 8: Ada F., b. Sept. 1894 in Tx.: Vena M.. b. Nov. 1897 in Tx. age 2. Note: The two children who died before this census Two children were born after this 1900 census. (See children listed below)
87.
From here the story goes as follows: There was an epidemic
of Thyroid Fever came through this area of Tx. in early 1900. Many lives
were lost to this sickness, including, William Byrd Bostick and his wife
and one child.
Ada Frances (Bostick) Alexander, a daughter of William Byrd and wife, Martha, told the following sad story. In 1993, James Luther “Luke” Alexander, of Palm Harbor, Fla., a grandson of Ada, passed the story to me. Ada stated she was a young girl about thirteen when the Typhoid Fever caused the death of her parents and one sister. (Note: Based on Ada being about 13, this would have been in 1906 or 1907) She recalled, her mother and her sister had died, and their bodies were in a back room. She heard wolves howling during the night. Her being a young child, thought they were after the dead bodies. She said her father was real sick with a high fever. An old man stayed up all night turning him over and over. There were cabbage cooking, and her father wanted some of the cabbage. He was told he could not have any as they were trying to starve the fever out of him, but he said he was going to eat some if it killed him. He ate some, and died during the night. Ada being a young child, thought the cabbage had killed him.
The five surviving children were put on a train in Cisco, TX. destined for Memphis, Tenn. They were met in Memphis by their grandfather, Charles Henry Bostick, and an uncle, Henry Vester Bostick. They carried the children home to Winfield, Ala. were they were raised by relatives.
Their eight children are listed next in order, based on the 1900 census of Comanche Co. TX. The census listed Martha had six children and four living. From this census we know there were two born after 1900. The census listed both William Byrd and Martha as being married eleven years.

in Comanche Co. Tx. as per the 1900 census of Comanche Co., her older brother,
Delton was born in Ala. in 1892. This indicates her parents moved from
Marion Co. Ala. to Comanche Co. between 1892 and 1894. After her parents
died in Tx. She was brought back to Marion Co. and raised by her grandfather,
Charles Henry Bostick. Ada was about 13 when her parents died. Ada died
in 1965, near Birmingham, Ala. She married, John Thomas Alexander on 12
July 1913 in Marion Co. Ala. (Mb. 7 Pg. 258) John and Ada are buried in
the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lamar Co. Ala. near the small

89.
(E) Vena Maud Bostick: The 1900 census of Comanche Co.
Tx. dated, 30 June 1900. The census recorded her age as 2, born Nov. 1897
in Tx. I believe this census to be correct because surely her parents knew
where she was born and being only two at the time would have recorded her
age correctly. I mention this for the following reason. The 1910 census
of Marion Co. Ala. lists her born in Ala. and age of 14. It was not found
where she was buried. She was one of five children who were brought back
to Marino Co. Ala. after her parents and two of their children died of
Typhoid Fever in Tx. Vena and sister Ada were raised by their grandfather,
Charles Henry Bostick. Vena married, Elbert F. Presley about 1913, based
on the birth of their 1st child. After she died, he married 2nd Vergie

(G) Pearl Bostick: Born about 1899 in Comanche Co. TX. After she was brought back from Tx. to Marion Co. Ala., she was raised by her aunt, Bell Zora (Bostick) Couch and her husband, Jesse H. Couch, who had ten children of their own. Pearl married, ????? Dodson and settled in Calif. Nothing else known.
(H) William Hollis Bostick: (1903-1972) He was the youngest of eight children of William Byrd Bostick and Mattie/Martha (Caddel) Bostick. He was born in Comanche Co. Tx. and died in Guwin, Ala. in Marion Co. He was one of five children whose parents and a sister, died in Comanche Co. Ala. Holly and one brother and three sisters were returned to Marion Co. Ala. where they were raised by various family members. Holly was raised by, Rosie Ida Bostick and her husband, Mack Pierce of Hamilton, Ala. They had no children of their own, but Mack had three daughters by a previous marriage. Mack and Rosie Pearce's estate settlement was found in Hamilton, Ala. (Vol. 16 Pgs. 277-281) Holly was not mentioned. (See Pg. 91 for more on the Pierce family) Rosie was mentioned as residing in Raymondsville, Tx. in 1936, the date of the settlement.
Holly was married to Anna Bell Littleton on 30 June 1924 in Marion Co. Ala. (Mb.10 Pg. 574) They later moved to Raymondsville, Tx. where their only son was born. They being in Raymondsville, is probably the reason for Rosie being there in 1936. Their son was a minister in Birmingham, Ala. at the time his father died in Guwin, Ala. He moved his mother to Birmingham, and brought Holly's body to Birmingham, where both Holly and Anna Bell Bostick are buried in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Trusville, Ala. which is a suburb of Birmingham. Their only son is listed next in bold letters.
William Hollis Bostick II: He was born 15 Dec. 1940 in
Raymondsville, TX. He was married to Frances Penolope Rogers in Birmingham,
Ala. She was born 5 Nov. 1942 in Birmingham. As of 1993, he is Minister
of the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Ala. It is from an
old photograph in his possession that led me to Comanche Co. TX. This was
where his grandparents and one daughter died of Typhoid Fever, about 1906/07.
William Hollis and Frances Bostick have two children, William Hollis Bostick
III, born 15 Feb. 1967. He is married to Tara Thompson. As of 1993,
they live in Mobile, Ala. and have no children. Their 2nd son is Bryan

three children.
(A) Clifton M. "Cliff" Bostick: He was born 6 June 1898 and died 18 Sept. 1962. His father's estate record mentioned him as "Cliff" and living in Atlanta, Ga. It is said he died in Sulligent, Ala. Nothing else researched.

Lois Married 2nd, Harry Boyd and they lived in Walnut, Miss. in Tippah Co. where they had a drug store. They had no children of their own but adopted a son, named Gene or possibly Eugene Boyd. After Harry died Lois and her son moved to Jackson, Tenn. in Madison Co.

Holly’s parents had died in Comanche Co. Tx. about 1907. (See Pg. 89 for more info on HollY)
It was not found what happened to Mack's 1st wife. Mack
and Rosie are buried in the Guwin City Cemetery in Guwin, Ala. in Marion
Co. Mack and Rosie's estate settlement in recorded in Hamilton, Ala. (Filed
25 Nov. 1936, Vol. 16 pages, 277-281) Holly is not mentioned in the settlement.
Rosie was living in Raymondsville, Tx. at the time of the settlement. Holly
was also residing in Raymondsville in 1936. It is not know why they were
in South TX. The mentioned Estate settlement was by deposition of, K. U.
Fite who was the Administrator.
The three following children were mentioned in the settlement
were:

There were several marriages between the Bosticks and the Dickinsons. The Dickinsons came to Marion Co. Ala. from Cherokee Co. Ga., as did the Bosticks. They probably knew each other in Ga. There is a Dickinson family Cemetery with about twelve marked graves located, North of Winfield, Ala. This cemetery is located a pasture behind the home of Alvin Beasley.
