At the age of eight, two weeks before Sybok was to undergo his Kahs-wans, Sybok's mother was due to be honored by the Federation for her work in the translation of the Shelliac language. It was decided that Sybok would remain on Vulcan in the care of long time family friend Captain Ivan Dean while the family traveled to Starbase 149. Two days after the USS Peregrine left Vulcan, she disappeared from Federation sensors. Sybok's entire family was aboard and presumed dead. With no relatives on Vulcan, Captain Ivan Dean adopted young Sybok. It was aboard Captain Dean's ship that Sybok's dream of exploration became a reality.
Growing up with a human father figure, Sybok lost some of his inherent Vulcan stoicism. Humor was one concept he learned to appreciate and even enjoy. His relationship with Ivan Dean became a close one. When Sybok reached the age of 18, he enlisted in Starfleet Academy. He proved to be an adept student and graduated top of his class.
Upon his first posting aboard the USS Ghandi, Sybok received a transmission from his adopted father and newly promoted Commodore Dean. His family had been found. The USS Peregrine had crashed on an uninhabited world and, with all communications nonfunctional; it was by sheer chance that the science vessel USS Hawking discovered the survivors.
Sybok rose through the ranks of Starfleet rather quickly. His standards of perfection in whatever he chose to undertake soon became his trademark. His leadership qualities were not lost upon Starfleet and within 10 years, Sybok took his place as one of the youngest captains in Starfleet at the age of 28.
During the battle at Wolf 359, the USS Intrepid commanded by Captain Sybok was instrumental in the defeat of the Borg. He was given a commendation for his role on the battle.
On stardate 53074.3, Ivan Dean; now holding the rank of Fleet Admiral enlisted Captain Sybok in the newest division of Starfleet, the Exploratory Crews. The USS Intrepid, heavily damaged due to a fierce battle with the Dominion was decommissioned. As a surprise to Captain Sybok, Fleet Admiral Dean had her refitted to Sovereign class and recommissioned at San Francisco Shipyards as the flagship of the ECF. It was less than one year later that Captain Sybok would lead the ECF into battle against the Borg.
On Stardate 53901.7, Captain Sybok was lost in a temporal anomaly while making his way to Vulcan. Near death and in the final stages of ponn far, he was found and rescued by Captain Kerilynn Chandra. It was during a life saving mind meld initiated by Captain Chandra that both realized their love for one another. The meld became a bond.
After a short recovery period at Starbase 7, Sybok returned to the USS Intrepid with his bondmate as his executive officer. Two weeks later, he was promoted to the rank of Fleet Captain by Admiral T'Sela.
Sybok remained aboard the Intrepid until reassigned to Starbase 7 by Fleet Admiral Dean. He served as fleet advisor until Admiral T'Sela promoted him to Commodore and reassigned him to Outpost R-631.
His current status is listed as on special assignment for Starbase 7.
