USS INTREPID NCC 1831-C
The Flagship of the ECF

On Stardate 47050.4, the Intrepid class Starship, USS INTREPID found herself engaged in combat with the Dominion several parsecs away from DS9. After receiving a distress signal from INTREPID, two nearby Starfleet vessels responded and immediately approached the battle area to aid in eliminating the Dominion threat. The end results of the battle however, were quite devastating to the INTREPID. Most of her crew had perished in the skirmish and only a marginal percentage of the ship remained intact. The remains of INTREPID were towed to DS9 and, upon investigation by Starfleet Command, it was decided that she would be decommissioned and scraped for recycling.

It was while receiving a promotion and new orders for the command of SB7 that Fleet Admiral Ivan Dean learned the fate of the USS INTREPID. An even heavier blow was landed upon the newly promoted Fleet Admiral when he received the news that his niece, Patty Aris Dean, an Astrometrics Lab Assistant stationed on INTREPID, was among those who had perished. Vowing to have the crew of INTREPID commemorated, Fleet Admiral Dean lobbied for several months to get the name INTREPID back into service.

On Stardate 52897.8, Fleet Admiral Dean was granted more than just his request. He was to receive a Sovereign class vessel which was under construction at the time, bearing the name INTREPID. She would be the fifth vessel built in her class.

Immediately following his grant, Fleet Admiral Dean had managed to pull additional strings in order to obtain a section of the original INTREPID class' infrastructure before she was completely scraped. He then gave the orders to have the section installed within the new ship.

The legacy lives on.

On Stardate 53074.3, the Sovereign class Starship, USS INTREPID (NCC-1831-C) was commissioned at San Francisco Shipyards as the flagship of the ECF. Alongside the dedication plaque that is mounted on her bridge, a special commemorative plaque displays the names of all the Starfleet personnel who have served and lost their lives aboard every starship named INTREPID. It extends back to the first Constitution class vessel that proudly bore the name.

She is presently under the command of Fleet Captain Gabriel Holmes.

Specifications:
Type: Armament: Defense Systems: Warp Speeds: Strength Indices:

The USS INTREPID is capable of very high warp speeds, in excess of warp 9.98, and is extremely agile for a ship of its size. The INTREPID's mission is of deep space exploration and diplomacy.

The Sovereign class Intrepid is also heavily armed. She is equipped with powerful phaser arrays, as well as fore and aft quantum torpedo launchers. Her hull is protected by Starfleet's new double-redundant quick-charging shields. This new shielding system builds a back-buffer shield in addition to the primary shield. When sufficient damage is taken to the primary shield, the back-buffer is phased through to replace the primary while it is recharged within the protection of the new primary. This new system consumes a good deal of energy, which is supplied by half a dozen fusion reactors arrayed near the shield emitters.
