ECF Directives Acceptance Pledge

I, Saito Hajime VI hereby accept and promise to abide by as well as uphold all the Directives of the Exploratory Crews of the Federation.

Hajime was born and raised in the heart of the bustling modern city of Kyoto, but in a family that still held to the centuries-old traditions and values, at least, since the Meiji Revolution and Second World War.

His father is technically the master of the house, but he views his wife as his equal in every way, as has every Saito family since the first Saito Hajime. Because of this, every family has stayed together since then. This family is no different. Growing up in a dojo, Hajime was automatically exposed to the art of sword-making and handling, becoming the youngest person in the Saito family to master the first four stances in his ancestor's ultimate technique: the Gatotsu. This technique was a charging attack, and therefore required everyone who wished to master it to build up their running speed and abilities so they could be able to use it effectively. This made all who mastered it almost as feared as any natural disaster, because while using this stance, one who has mastered it could reach incredible speeds, rendering them almost invisible to a normal person. However, the complacency settling in after the second world war made this ability almost a myth, until the third world war, when it became necessary to use these abilities once again.

After the war, the remaining families of Japan headed back into the mountains to live and to help repair their own part of the world. After the foundation of the Federation and the rebuilding of Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima, those remaining families returned to the cities, determined to show that they could hold their own traditions while still keeping up with the west. The Saito family led these groups of families, and eventually were able to help Kyoto turn into one of the most successful cities in Japan. Not content with life in constant limelight, they let the world government take over and they settled in the city itself, opening up a dojo to keep the old traditions alive. This they have done well, turning out over 100 students per year. The expanding Saito family helped compensate for this massive inflow of students. However, with many turning to Starfleet and the other branches of the Federation, the turnout has been reduced to around 10 per year.

Originally, Saito Hajime was supposed to become the head master of the dojo in his father's place, because it became apparent that the spirit of the original Saito Hajime resided within him. However, the spirit of Saito Hajime also had an urge to explore and learn, so he was enrolled into Starfleet, though he promised to come back when it was time to take over the title as master of the dojo.

He reached the first in his security class because of his life-long sword training and knowledge of the Gatotsu, enabling him to "take down" opponents armed with phasers, though this may not have been the truth without the spirit of the first Saito Hajime. This inherent ability gained him extra points in that area, and he also excelled in the sciences, due to the instruction of both his mother and father. Unfortunately, few ships had the opening for security personnel, so Hajime was sent to the Nebuchadnezzer as a versatile specialist, because of his wide variety of knowledge and abilities, though he hopes to join the security team permanently.
