Commander James Maxwell Boothby

Personal Profile: James M. Boothby

ECF Directives Acceptance Pledge

I, James Maxwell Boothby hereby accept and promise to abide by as well as uphold all the Directives of the Exploratory Crews of the Federation.

James had a nearly perfect childhood, from most peoples perspective. He grew up under loads of positive influence, and a belief that he could achieve anything. While this was the perfect nurturing environment, it did leave him with a lack of an outlet for his more mischievous side. Eventually, as he grew, this mischievous side lead to an education at the school of hard knocks.

At his parents insistence, he joined Starfleet Academy at the earliest age possible. Despite their expectations, instead taking a course to give him a position on or near Earth, he chose to try for a spot on a starship in deep space, a place his parents had always begged him not to go. They themselves had never left Earth for as long as James could remember. Despite the fears of his parents, James continued and achieved his goal, finding a post on a Federation starship.

What James never knew, was why his parents dreaded the idea of him going off into space. Long before he was born, his parents were members of a freighter crew, the Brisbane. They had a child, Thomas. While on a mission to the edge of Klingon space, the ship was misdirected by a malfunctioning navigational beacon and flew into Klingon space, where they were subsequently attacked and boarded by a patrolling Klingon ship. His parents along with several other crew members were taken back to the Klingon ship and interrogated, on the assumption that they were smugglers. During a less friendly session, things became physical and the Thomas was killed. Not long after, the Federation rescued the crew and ship. The records of the incident were buried due to the negotiations for peace that were occurring at the time.

The Boothby family vowed never to leave Earth again and later, had another child, James. To this day, James has no knowledge of his brother, or the incident with the Klingons. As far as he knows, his parents have never left Earth.
