Gipsland



The Gippsland region includes the mysterious mountains with there abundance of streams and creeks, majestic forests with fantastic views of the valleys, rolling plains merging to the coastline. It has one of the most diverse landscapes in Victoria with snow fields, wilderness, rain-forests, beaches, industrialized areas, farm land and much much more.

The Gippsland Lakes is the most exclusive waterway systems in Australia. It is made up of three magnificent lakes, covering a distance of 60 kilometers. The first is Lake Wellington at the western end connecting via McLennans Strait to Lake Victoria, then onto Lake King and finally, through a man made entrance to join the Southern sea waters of Bass Strait.

The major contributing rivers of the Latrobe, Thompson, Avon, Mitchell, Nicholson and Tambo feed this wonderful water system which spreads over a large part of the Central and East Gippsland area. Many small islands are within the Lakes and one of the most well known is Rotamah island, which is famous for its native water-birds and wildlife. The Mitchell River silt jetties are a strange feature of these lakes and are amongst the longest in the world. It is believed that they were formed by silt being washed down the Mitchell River about a million years ago.

Phillip Island is the one of the top natural attractions in Australia with man made attractions which are first class, and the natural attractions are Internationally renowned. Australia's second most visited area is Penguin Parade, Australia's second most visited natural attraction. Also Phillip Island is well known for the Australian Grand Prix circuit for moter bike racing. There are also natural attractions like "The Nobbies", "The Blowhole", Cape Woolamai and Seal Rocks.

On the coast there is cool clear waters, long sandy beaches, spectacular cliffs and rock pools. Within these rock pools are an abundance of marine life. In the high country is the huge eucalypt forests. In this area many native animals are in there natural habitat.
