The Gold Coast boasts an average of 245 days of fine weather each year and daytime temperatures above 22 degrees for 279 days a year. It is located on the Eastern seaboard of Australia just 80 kilometers south of the Brisbane and stretches along 42 kilometers of beachfront. The narrow coastal strip is backed by the beautiful Macpherson Range known as the green behind the gold.
The Aboriginals were the first to recognise the area's place of relaxation and fun as traces of their tribal feasts at bora rings and middens can be found. However the first Europeans to explore the area was William Duncan and Neddy Harper. They crossed the Tweed district in search of new stands of cedar in 1842.
The heart of the Gold Coast is Surfers Paradise as it provides the majority of accomadation in highrise apartments, hotels, motels etc, all vying for a view of the ocean.
The Gold Coast is the Theme Park Capital of the southern hemisphere. These parks are SeaWorld, Movie World, Wet'n'Wild,Dreamworld and Currumbin Sanctuary.
The Gold Coast was originally known as the South Coast but the Brisbane newspapers began using the name Gold Coast due to the costs of accomdation and services. So the name was officially accepted on 23rd October 1958.
Coolangatta is Queensland's most southerly coastal town, the gateway to the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales. Located on the border near its twin town of Tweed Heads, Coolangatta is the perfect with plenty of sunshine (an average of 300 days a year) and temperatures ranging from 20C - 28C in Summer and from 11C - 21C in Winter.
