What is Sandvalley? Sandvalley is the valley at the foot of Sand Mountain. The American Bulldogs that I have bred or come down from my lines (since 1979) usually carry the S.V. or Sandvalley tag.

Where is Sandvalley? Sandvalley is located in the north central hills of Alabama.

How I Got My First American Bulldog
I was raised with a Catahoula (from Louisiana). He was my constant companion. He followed me when I went horseback riding ,hunting, whatever I did he was always there.Ready to protect or help just generally taking care of me.He died when we were both fourteen years old.
Three months later still mourning the loss of my companion / friend .My Dad and I went to the flea market one Sunday.
There on the back of a flat bed one ton truck was a litter of puppies.(those days they were called American Pit Bulldogs). My Dad said,"Son,if you want a good stockdog right there is what you need,an American Pit Bulldog."The "pit" was dropped in the eighties.
We looked at the pups. There were six brindle females, and one white male with a brindle patch over his left eye. This male became Jones` Sam.

Here is a picture of me and my Grandad with Sam

We never bred just to be breeding or to sell pups,in those days only to keep a bulldog around. They were mighty handy for keeping strangers out ,and for catching cattle. You could even herd and move livestock with them.
Through one of Sam`s sons(Chief) we wound up with Sandvalley Sam(Now belonging to
Joshua Kennels )also known as Cowboy.
If you like this then let me know.I plan to put up stories about alot of Southern bulldog men.Who they were and how they got started.-Darrin Jones
