FROM THE EDITOR:
AS, IS USUAL WHEN HARRY LITTLE TRYED TO IMPROVE THE OLD WRITTEN FANTAIL STANDARD; YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE VARIOUS TYPES OF FANCIER.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE TAIL MARK STANDARD. HARRY, COULDN'T GET THE MAIN BREEDERS AT THAT TIME TO AGREE TO A PROPER TM FACTOR. BY, THAT, HE HAD TO
LET THE GRIZZLE FACTOR BIRDS BE APPROVED. WHERE'S THE TAIL MARKS?
THE ONLY THING THAT PAUL POLLY IS SAYING IS: THE CANUCKS WERE THE ONES TO BUILD THEM SMALL, WITH VERY LARGE TAILS, CERAMIC FEATHER,BUT, HAVE MAYBE LOST THE PROPER LEGS/LINES/FORE AND AFT DEPTH AND THE COLORATION. AND,HE AND HIS PARTNER ARE LOOKING TO CORRECT THESE PROBLEMS.BUT, AT THE SAME TIME, THE NATURE OF PEOPLE CONTINUES TO BE DOMINANT IN THIS CCFC,AND HE IS, ALONG WITH A MAYBE A MAJORITY OF BREEDERS, HOPING TO CLEAR SOME OLD UNDERBRUSH THAT MIGHT BE PREVENTING SAME FROM HAPPENING.
THE BULLETIN DIRECTOR,RECENTLY SAID: "WE NEED MORE BREEDERS AND COMPETANT JUDGES. HEY, THE HOBBY HAS SEEN "FADS" SINCE DAY ONE! IT IS NOT EASY TO BREED FOR EVERYTHING(GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND COLORATION) WE MAY NEVER BREED FROM A CULL; BUT, THEN, IF WE DID, MAYBE WE WOULDN'T LOSE SOME OF THE THINGS WE NEED IN OUR STUDS TODAY.(EVERYBODY) WE CAN SUPPORT EVERYTHING WE SAY,BUT, THE BOTTOM LINE IS KEEP IMPROVING THEM AND THIS HOBBY, HAVE FUN,THINK OF THE FANTAIL AND THE HOBBY FIRST, AND WINNING WILL SURELY COME. THIS IS ALL MR PAUL POLLY IS SAYING. BUT, DON'T TRY TO SELL YOUR KIND OF FANTAIL, UNLESS IT HAS "EVERYTHING" AND THAT INCLUDES GOOD COLOR.ALL, PAUL IS SAYING IS THAT WE WANT A BALANCED FANTAIL WITH BALANCE,AND, TO HAVE THE LATTER, WE MUST HAVE THE RIGHT LEGS AND UNDER-CARRIAGE!{FIFTEEN POINTS}(AND THIS MAKES FOR THE TWENTY FIVE POINTS FOR CARRIAGE AND MOTION)THE FORMER DEFINITION OF BALANCE, WELL, OBVIOUSLY, BALANCED HERE REFERS TO HAVING AS CLOSE TO 100 POINTS AS POSSIBLE. COLOR, POOOOOWEE 5 POINTS! BUT, DON'T THINK YOU CAN PAINT THEM LIKE A BARN; CAUSE YOU CAN'T; WE MUST BRING IT ALL IN AT ONCE, CULL VERY CAREFULLY,SO AS NOT TO LOSE ANY OF THEM PIECES OF THE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS!
THE TROUBLE IS,WE CANNOT KEEP THAT MANY FANTAILS. YOU GET CROWDED CONDITIONS.STILL, WE MUST BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PIECES OF A GENERAL REQUIREMENT. AND, THE SAME FOR COLORATION/MARKINGS. IF WE CAN JUDGE FOR BALANCE, PROPER JUDGING,THEN EVERYONE HAS AN EQUAL CHANCE OF WINNING; THE SAME MAN DON'T WIN ALL THE TIME;AND THE HOBBY GETS STRONGER; MORE PEOPLE ARE SHOWING; MORE PEOPLE ARE SHARING AND TRADING BIRDS, AND, HEY! EVERYONE HAS A SHOT AT CHAMPION. PEOPLE, THIS IS ALL ANYBODY IS SAYING; AND IT IS UP TO THE EXECUTIVE TO CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN......MCKAI
We believe that low rounders are a better starting place than the OLD "UP TYPES" because you are starting with a bird that is small, with huge tail; and, get a better sense of what, where the legs should be to carry a low rounder like a BULL. A Bull is just a larger low rounder, with longer legs and a fore/aft dimension that allows the BULL to approach ROUNDNESS so desired. The low rounders need some more body depth.
Nothing has changed, but we really appreciated the String Article for it's insight into the future production of the small fantail, with huge tail, raised up side down "V" rump, with the better depth from a "BULL". Legs are the foundation, no matter the "TYPE" and String may not have anything to do with the legs per se; but sooner or later, understand or not we are going to place an "undercarriage" on a "Canada TYPE", and , that is where this EDITOR thinks we are looking to go!
As we scanned the birds in the Finals; we noted all small fantails, excepting the black.Tom made the point that this black was a Saint for proper carriage and motion. This black was an up-type with great color. It was shown by: Frenchy??? The rest were small and proper; The Grand Champion was a white of Bill O'Dells',first Reserve to a white of Randy Wilson's, second Reserve to a blue bar from Bob Vincent. Bob had some fine silvers entered. Joe Schabert had a very fine pdr blue that the writer took note. A lovaly Show, smooth as silk operation... Show cages were new and plenty to do a proper Judging.
This Show reminded me of the DIXIE SHOWS. It was a fun and comfortable feeling. It was a great Show....and we finished up at 5PM...a first for the fantail section. The YANCEY'S REALLY were organized. And, as usual, a Fantastic Lunch. A lot of home made cookies! Nice Show Folks, and WE THANK YA!! THE GENEPOOL GUYS.
